[Inactive] Got an alert that I have viruses

It was a pop up on the screen from security essentals, which is my anti-virus and said to clean the viruses I have, 3 were listed and one was trojan, I don't remember others. I clicked on clean and the status bar at the bottom asked me to save/download from an unknown site. I thought it could be a scam. Why didn't it go directly to my SE? It came up 2 different times in 2 days. I didn't download. However I have now run a complete scan for 3 hours and it shows 9 serious virues, all show java in the name, none said trojan. I removed them Do you think it's necessary to follow all the instructions on the announcement? I did try to download Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free to your desktop but it took me to download ARO 2012 from cnet. So I stopped. I'm not having any issues on the computer and I'm not comfortable doing everything being shown. Is it still necessary to follow all these intructions? Can I still have problems from those I removed?
I have windows 7, about 2 years old on a laptop.

I found this on google and is exactly the alert I saw which now confirms it was fake.
Surprised I still had 9 viruses, all with the word java in the virus. I have removed them. I would never have done a full scan as I had no issues.

    Thanks for all your help.

I can't comment without seeing some logs.

Please, complete all steps listed HERE

    Please, observe following rules:
    • Read all of my instructions very carefully. Your mistakes during cleaning process may have very serious consequences, like unbootable computer.
    • If you're stuck, or you're not sure about certain step, always ask before doing anything else.
    • Please refrain from running any tools, fixes or applying any changes to your computer other than those I suggest.
    • Never run more than one scan at a time.
    • Keep updating me regarding your computer behavior, good, or bad.
    • The cleaning process, once started, has to be completed. Even if your computer appears to act better, it may still be infected. Once the computer is totally clean, I'll certainly let you know.
    • If you leave the topic without explanation in the middle of a cleaning process, you may not be eligible to receive any more help in malware removal forum.
    • I close my topics if you have not replied in 5 days. If you need more time, simply let me know. If I closed your topic and you need it to be reopened, simply PM me.
