    I back up my home & work computers monthly using an external hard drive. I just copy the files I want to back up. I also backup all emails received during that month.

    I do use a thumb drive to back up my quickbooks; however, every time I use it.

    Backup

    I need to add a drive to my RAID array for just this reason - that'll happen when I upgrade to SSDs.
    Apart from that, I use multiple cloud backup, cross referencing by type to create multiple backups in case of service loss [I've lost data that way before]:
    This includes services such as Dropbox, google Drive, Cubby, and Sugarsync;
    plus services like Evernote, Pintrest, Picassa, Soundcloud, etc.;
    and things like private uploads to YouTube and / or facebook, and / or google + for personal video.

    There really isn't a need for anyone with broadband to back up to any local media [although I still do], let alone to add a parity drive to a RAID array [for anything other than system / software backup - which is why I will add SSDs and do use DVD-RAM], or even to pay excess charges for increased storage on Dropbox-type storage: It just needs a little research, imagination....and the realisation that the future's already here - but it arrived so fast that hardly anyone's noticed! :)

    Multiple cloud storage is better [as in backing up to more than one cloud service]: They take care of parity and disc maintainance for you; you can cross-reference services....and with a bit of imagination and research, there's no need to pay premiums - just the free services [unless you're doing it for business purposes, in which case premiums should be tax-deductable....and will support those who can't afford them!].

    I use the software which came with my Seagate Freeagent. Back up data, pictures, music, videos every Sunday at 2:00 a.m.
