No chkdsk, no system restore working.

    Hi people, have just got back from a period of inactivity (old age) .
    I cannot run chkdsk or system restore.
    getting error message, 'Driver manager, \ documents and settings\all users\application data\drive manager\driver manager\rule engine\rule historycontroller', run chkdsk.
    A number of other error messages come up about corrupt file etc.
    It was alright before I had to have time off.

    no chkdsk, no system restore

    Thanks Airie, tried Seagate Diagnostic disk it reported NO problems in short and long scans. I also get my computer switching from the web page I am on back to MSN UK Hotmail. without me doing anything.

    You possibly have/had malware on your computer yet didn't finish the cleanup.

    just had a scan by PC Cleaner, 191 system problems,2 malware,926 security issues. Not worth keeping this HD is it? or can I save it? It works ok except for recovering or storing files/photo's from/to memory sticks and so on, it's working now, I am on it.Any suggestions? I had a slave HD with it it does not let me access that.

    Update on problem.GMER did not complete scan, seems to be problems with Uninstalling Firewall and AVG anti virus, have tried to uninstall from 'Add Remove' no luck, tried Mcafee, my normal security software, They could not instal Mcafee or scan for the same problem with AVG.The mbam log (not posted yet) showed no malicious items detected now. Any ideas please.
    I am working on the problem PC now,Mcafee tried a remote use of my keyboard and mouse, but we came back to the AVG problem.

    You were asked to post in the Malware & Virus Removal forum and I suggest you do that - we will not respond to problems with the scans requested by that forum in this thread.

    I did not respond in the Malware/Virus removal section because the instructions given by Spyware Dr for scans had not been completed for the reasons given in my last post.
