When I try to upgrade adobe reader x, I get this message:
Error 1402 unable to open: HKEY_Local_Michine32\software\classes\interface\{46B89F5A-7692-AD9A-E3755915CBC3}\typelib. I opened the registry and that Key is not there. The Adobe Reader will not even let me uninstall it. How do I get this key back in the Registry?

Hi TreeSaver, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

I would completely uninstall Adobe Reader X from the Uninstall a program window in Control Panel. Then after Adobe Reader has been uninstalled, reboot the computer then download and install Adobe Reader X 10.1.4.

Let me know if Adobe Reader installs properly.

You could try the FREE Revo Uninstaller (the one on the left side) and do the 4th choice on the 1st window and also ALL the registry cleanups it offers. Then reinstall it from Adobe

Also please do as Evan suggested about your System Details.

The article would work if the HKey was still there. It is not in the Registry. The reason I get the message that it can't open the HKey is because somehow that Hkey has been deleted. If I could put it back in I think it might work, but it seems no one know how to put the Hkey back in and adobe wants $49.95 to fix their problem.

Are you saying that Revo won't uninstall it?

I found out that the only way to get the Hkey back into my registry, was to use the Disk Image that I created when I purchased this computer. I did that and now everything works. Thanks for all your suggestions. If I had manually uninstalled Reader x without fixing the Hkey then I couldn't ever install it, because it would still want that Hkey. I have the newest upgrade installed now. Thanks to all who tried to help.
