I've used Windows Media Player for years and never had this problem. I ripped a song from a cd but can't seem to find it in Media Player. The song was Under My Thumb by the Rolling Stones. In Media Player I went to Artist and clicked on the Rolling Stones folder but the song wasn't there. If I click on Start/User Name/My Music then click on the Rolling Stones folder it is there. How do I get it into Media Player? I would have thought that since I was in Media Player when I ripped it it would be there.

Also, I had some songs that were messed up, so I deleted them. They still appear in Media Player, however. When I click on them a small x appears next to them and they don't open, which makes sense since I deleted them, but I don't understand why they still appear.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

When you try to open the song in Media Player (using the File>Open menu), make sure the the drop-down list to the right of "File Name" (at the bottom of the Open window) is showing "Media files (all types). "

It may be stuck on a file type different than the one you're looking for.

The red X is telling you that song on the Playlist is unplayable. In this case, it's gone. Just remove that title from that playlist.

Media Player has a setting "delete file from computer when deleted from library ". It's enabled by default, thus the songs you deleted from the library are gone completely unless you disabled that setting.

Open Media Player > Options > Rip tab and select a location where ripped media is saved.

    When I'm in Media Player I don't have a File>Open menu.

I also don't think I'm using a playlist. I listen to music while using the computer for other things. I open Media Player, click on Artist, go to the Artist I want to listen to and click on that. A list of songs I have by that artist appear and I click on that. With these 10 messed up songs that I deleted, they still appear in the list but can't be played because I deleted them. I know they deleted because they appeared in the Recycle Bin. I'm trying to figure out how to get them out of that list of songs by that artist.

I don't seem to have "Options" in Media Player when I open it.

To get rid of them individually, right click on and in the menu that opens, left click "Remove from list." Do that for each you want to get off the list.

To display the menu bar to access the File menu, in Windows Media Player, press the Ctrl M key combination. If you don't want it showing all the time, press Ctrl M combo again.

When you are in explorer (Start/User Name/My Music), right click on the song and select "add to playlist ". This will add the song to the playlist in WMP and therefore add it to your library. I have experienced the same problem before and that is how I got around it.

Also, you may just want to right click and view properties of the file, the information there will tell you is it has a different artist listed. It may be under "unknown" in the library.

I tried this but it doesn't add the song in the same place, under Artist, in Media Player as the other songs.

I viewed properties and it seems to be the same artist. I also looked for it under unknown in the library and it wasn't there.

I had another thought about this. I got this computer a little over a year ago and was able to transfer all of my music from the old to the new computer. I know the other Rolling Stones songs I have that I access through Artist in Media Player were from the old computer. Could this have something to do with the problem I am having? I checked and both the old and new songs are .wma file types.
