I just purchased a WN802T Access point and connected it to my Cisco linksys E1200 router. The instruction say to connect to the access point using address 192.168.0.233 but it times out each time. The access point shows up as "netgear" in my wireless settings but I want to access its webpage and secure it. thanks in advance.

The first thing I always do when troubleshooting network issues is disable any firewall and see if that allows it to connect.

The next thing you need to do is to confirm that 192.168.0.233 is its actual ip address.

    Have you tried pinging it?

You could also check it using ipconfig that it does exist there.

    Your cisco is probably: 192.168.1.1

Disconnect the network cable from your computer.

Assign your computer a static ip address like so:
    IP 192.168.0.100
    subnet 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.233
    DNS: 192.168.0.233

Connect your comp by wire directly to the Netgear.

    Configure the wifi & security.
    Disable DHCP.

    Change the netgear to:
    IP 192.168.1.2
    subnet 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1

After "applying or saving" the settings, you will be disconnected.

Turn OFF the netgear (remove power), unplug the network cable and connect the netgear to the cisco. Turn ON the netgear.

Change your comp networking setting back to how they were. Acquire IP automatically.

Setting it up as above lets the cisco handle all routing and IP addressing. This is the most stable setup and easiest to later t-shoot.

It depends on the version of Windows you have.
    Please enter your System Details.

I think I got it. Thank you so much. I am running windows 7 64 bit, I went into network and sharing and changed the adapter settings on the tcp/ipv4 to the ones you recommended, then got into the netgear access point, assigned it what you said, although I changed the IP to 192.168.1.4 b/c .2 was taken, reverted the adapter back to obtain automatically and now the access point is running. thanks again
