    Hi,
I need help with my Acer ferrari one netbook please.
I turned it on yesterday, and it will not start up. It says that "windows failed to start" and I have two options. To launch startup repair or to start windows normally. It also says it could be because of hardware or software change. the only thing that has been put on is ie9. When you start in normal mode it just reverts back to the first screen, and if i start in startup repair, it goes to the log in page, but there is not anywhere to log in, and then it just seems to stop working. i left it on over night and nothing has happened. i have tried other options from the f8 button, but nothing is working.

Hi golf3, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Do you have a Windows 7 DVD that you can use to boot the computer from?

If you don't have a Windows 7 DVD, hopefully you have another Windows 7 computer that you can use to create a Windows 7 System Repair Disk to repair the computer. For directions on how to create a system repair disk take a look here, How to Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc.

Once you have a Windows 7 DVD or the System Repair Disk, boot the computer from the disk and click on Repair your computer. Now the System Recovery Options window will open where you will see a list of repair options that you can choose from. Click on System Restore and restore your computer from a few days earlier to when the computer worked.

If System Restore doesn't get the computer to boot up properly, boot from the Windows 7 DVD again or the System Repair Disk, click on Repair your computer and this time in the System Recovery Options window, click on Command Prompt.

When the Command Prompt window opens type the following commands and press enter after entering each one:

    BootRec.exe /fixmbr
    BootRec.exe /fixboot
    BootRec.exe /RebuildBcd

Let us know how you get on from there.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

I made a disc, used external dvd and nothing happened. so put it on a usb memory stick and tried that way. this did not work either. I'm thinking it may be dead. :(

Did you set the USB drive or your DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS? You need to do this for the computer to boot off the USB drive/DVD drive instead of the internal harddrive.

If you don't know how to change the boot order in the BIOS take a look here, Change the Boot Order in BIOS.

hi , as a recent installation of a browser upgrade was mentioned i suggest go into safe mode and uninstall ie9
ie9 is safe to use but somethings a browser upgrade installation can be buggy or incompatible with existing malware or marketingware due to enhanced security

After uninstalling , confirm whether computer processes ok , if ok ,
delete browsing related files via internet options
run CCleaner to remove additional redundant and potential issue prone temp files etc
run anti-virus/spyware full file scans and remove all parasites
i have found ad-aware by lavasoft effective
restart - confirm computer is running ok
    download and re-install ie9
    Test for subject issue

Hi tigerbright. The OP cannot access Safe Mode so they can't uninstall IE9 to test whether that resolves the problem. The problem is most likely caused by corrupt system files that need to get repaired in order to get the computer to boot up again.

If you are having someone take a look at the system would you still like some help with further troubleshooting this issue or not?
