I have a unit running on XP that has worked fine for past 3 years. Just today I've begun receiving an error message on start up that it "cannot find pathway to MSVCR80.ddl, dynamic library ". (Error message is displayed several times upon start up.) All Microsoft Office programs are affected. I cannot open Word or Excel files - either saved documents, new docs, or e-mail attachments. As near as I can tell it may be related to some Microsoft 'updates' I did this morning - but I can't see anything else as a possible cause of the problems. I've deleted the new updates, run the MalWare diagnositics, run the "error check program" for the disk maintenance. Problem persists.

I don't have the copy of MS OFFICE installation disk that was used to install the program - but can probably get it if that's the solution.

If there is another way of resolving this problem by using an tool or files downloaded from the internet, I would be interested in knowing about them.

    Any comments are appreciated.

    Thanks !

A system restore to the last date it worked correctly would be my first try. If it is just the .dll that's missing you may be able to copy it from another computer. If none of those work, then a reinstall would likely be in order.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried to do a "system restore" and it didn't function. I don't know if this is related to the current problem or not.

I do have another operative laptop, but it is running on VISTA. If I can copy the ddl from this and paste it to the operation system (XP) on the other computer .... perhaps you can give me some guidance as to how to go about it?

    Thanks,

Sorry I haven't been able to reply soon. I was away from home. I ended up doing a clean install with another version of Windows and the matter has been resolved. Thanks for all the input.
