I have a security update on my PC for Microsoft.NET.Framework 1.1 , the update will not install.

Upon checking my installed programmes, I have a heading for Microsoft.NET.Framework 1.1, but no file size noted.

I have versions 2 , 3, 3.5 , and 4, plus service packs, all with large file sizes.

Do I install 1.1 and add the security update, or how do I get rid of the update icon on my toolbar ?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't know what to tell you. Don't know what version of Windows you are running. Different versions require different things.
Please go to User CP near the top left and fill out your System Specs. This helps us help you.

Now that being said, I have seen this problem on XP and Vista. Uninstalling all the Net.framworks and starting over has cured the problem. Seen also where people just did the 4.0 and updated it if there were any at the time and that worked.

Hi Cranfield. Do you get an error message when you attempt to install the security update for .Net Framework 1.1?

Have you tried downloading and installing the update manually from the Microsoft website?

As MrBill stated, also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

I have added my system details, sorry for the omission and the sparsity of info, I am not very "techie ".

My OS is XP Home and I have tried to download the security update direct from the Microsoft website, but it still can't/won't load.

My basic intelligence says that it cannot update something that doesn't exist as the 1.1 file is empty.

I don't interfere with things on my PC, so there is no way I have accidentally deleted anything, I just assumed that 2, 3, 3.5 etc., were programmes updates and may have "absorbed" 1.1.

Is there any harm (or advantage) in reinstalling 1.1 ?
