Before logging in to Conduit I scrolled through some questions on the website.
One question was asked about deleting the toolbar and this was the answer:

If you are using Explorer then go Windows -> Panel controll- Install application - Uninstall the toolbar there.

I have checked every area for install/uninstall and can find nothing about Conduit. I have some Conduit files in MyDocuments which refuse to be deleted. What's that about?

As I said, conduit is the best place to answer your questions regarding this issue.

Wildfire, I have now tried three times to get into the Conduit Forum. I have signed up and they claim to have sent me a letter of activation. None has so far appeared even though they say it was sent.

I have aslo Googled for an answer and there is not a satisfactory response. Conduit appears nowhere on the Control Panel.

Sorry I can't help much more than I have. The only other thing I can suggest is a malware scan to get rid of any remnants...

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Please include a link to this thread in the malware forum

Sorry, but you should read more careful if you want to make a comment. Below is the message that appears on all our external links.

I ALWAYS remove Conduit products when I cleanup clients' systems. The software, the basic Conduit engine, is not malicious, but it is all too often used maliciously by people. It can be used to create custom toolbars, search options and even software download managers.

The products people make are often bundled with known malware or adware/freeware programs.

Get rid of Conduit and your errors will probably go away.

TonyT, thanks for the comment. I couldn't find Conduit anywhere until I ran WinPatrolPlus and then came across three instances ... one file and two toolbars, which I deleted. I rebooted.
I then ran Power Suite, including a Registry defrag, followed by a quick scan by SuperAntiSpyware - no results. I then ran CCleaner and rebooted again. Nothing has changed.
Ari, I apologize if I have somehow stepped on your protocols somewhere. If I did it was inadvertent. As you can tell, I am not an expert in computer use and sometimes do not understand the technology or how to exceute certain functions.
I read the Malware instructions and will try to execute but they are complex,at least to me, (I have idea of how to post the logs referred to, for example.) But will try to figure it out.

Just to confirm, that relentless error message has finally disappeared. I don't know why because I had tried so many options, including System Restore.

    Thanks again to all.
