Got a wierd issue that I dont know how to fix. The problem is when I am using a cd or dvd burning program and a error occurs in the burning.

The errors usually are bad disk unable to record etc. I will get a pop up telling me to try another disk.

When I place a new disk into the drive it will immediately tell me that this disk is full and please replace it with a empty cd or dvd. I can try every new cd that I have and it will not except itas empty.

When I look at the properties of the dvd or cd it tell me that it is full and there is no unused space on the disk.

It seems that I need to clear something to reset the reading of the disk.

Does this make sense to someone:confused:

If I shut down windows and reboot it will clear the memory and then work, however if I come across another burn error I must reboot the computer again.

    Any ideas????

    Larry

Hi Larry. Sounds to me like your CD drive could be failing and you may need to get it replaced.

In order to make sure that Windows XP is not causing the problem run this fix and then reboot the computer, Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media.

See if your CD drive works correctly after running the above fix.

Doc, I understand you are trying to help but suggesting new parts when you don't even know what kind of system GTNMUDDY has is a little risky don't you think?

(It's not the first time you've promoted newegg either, there are other providers out there).

I dont think the drive is the issue.

After trying different things I find that if the burn is successful the problem does not occur.

If I get a burn error or if I abort the burn, the problem occurs. The only solution to fix it is to shut down and reboot.

This problem just started to occur after I loaded some programs to edit and burn avi/wmv files to dvd format.

I have been using Record Now for abut 10 years and didnt have a problem. Now I have a issue with the dvd drive.

It is almost like I need to clear a buffer so my system looks at the drive as new and not what happened on the last function.

I may just pick up another drive anyway as my second dvd drive in my system has had issues with ejecting disks, tray jams up.

A brand new SAMSUNG SH-222AL/BSBE DVD Burner is risky?

For Newegg's whopping total of $17.99?

And that includes delivery by UPS in 2-3 days?

    Where's the risk?

(I've paid more for a greasy Pizza from some local dive, delivered in an ancient smoking rattletrap, driven by some weird psycho. Talk about a risk. :))

    --

Why Newegg? More often than not they have the cheapest price, (Froogle it to double-check), and, they can put what I want in my hands in 2 to 3 days, often for free.

If you don't want to use 'em, don't. <shrug> :)

For the USA IMHO it's either Newegg or Amazon. Can't remember the last time I've ordered from anywhere else when I was in the US.

And here I was thinking we were trying to fix HIS computer. :)

    It was when he said:

I assumed he meant a desktop computer. Could be wrong of course. You know what they say about assuming. :)

Fair point, how about discussing PATA & SATA then ;)

Seriously I'm not having a go Doc, just suggesting that we get to know what the poster has before recommending replacements.

    Like I said, I thought I, (not "we "), did. :)

Don't believe I've ever run across a laptop with two DVD drives. Never know though. Someone's probably got one somewhere.

OK, If you're are 100% convinced that a SATA drive will fit into Larry's system without additional adaptors then I can only bow to your greater knowledge.

PS I would have brought this up via PM's but you don't accept any.
