Echo wildfire's suggestion for posting your system details. At first, I wanted to know whether it was a laptop computer or a desktop, it is a laptop.

If you can identify where the harddrive (HDD) is located, take it out and put it back in. That will clean the connections to an extent

Go to the Dell website and to their Support. Use your Service Tag to get to the information about your PC.

Find out what they suggest for testing the HDD. If the drive might still be under warranty, their own tests will be only ones that they will recognise. If you find the drive is "bad" and send it, or the whole computer, back for repairs, your data will be "gone ", so back-up your data now!

If it is out of warranty, run Error Checking (CHKDSK), look it up in Help and Support. Put checks in the boxes for doing the extra testing (test the disk surface). You will need to set it to run when you restart the computer.

    Matt

Looks like triplex805 has dropped out of the picture.
Hope he found it or else he could have my spare Q: drive listed under Weird Hard drive if he went to my post and did a copy paste to his PC
