I am trying to re-format my hard drive with my original HP XP Home cd. It loads the files and then it shows" windows is starting ". Then it goes back to the boot automatically and starts the install again.
I have tested the hd with a re-generator and checked the 1GB ram, motherboard. All shows good. Any suggestions? Thanks

We're going to need a little more details about your setup... Particulary Which SP level are you trying to install and whether you have a SATA or PATA(IDE) drive installed...

We encourage all members to enter their system details, it could help resolving this and any future issues you may have.

sorry, my OE cd is sp2 that I am using...it is a 160g Western Digital pata drive. The bios is set to boot from cd first and hdd second. I will have to get back with you on the MB brand and bios ver as I am not at home right now. Do you need that as well?
    Thanks for the help

No need for MB details just now, but thanks for the response (it's annoying how many people don't respond to such a simple request).

Test you HD to ensure it's not faulty (see below), after that I'd test your RAM.

    Western Digital diagnostics.

Thanks for the reply. Be advised that in my first post I stated that I checked the hd integrity with a hard disk regenerator program and it tested ok. I also used mem test 86 and ran it for 30 min with no errors. On this last try, I get this error: "error loading operating system" "press any key to reboot cd." but now it won't even boot my cd software

You haven't responded, so I attached a usb drive adapter to the removed hd and plugged it into an old laptop. I d/l the file to my flash drive and ran the tests from there...the drive test was successful...
The memory tests were successful as well (windows mem test and memtest 86)
    Any other suggestions?

Other than asking HP for support I have nothing to offer except perhaps your CD is faulty? Sorry :(
