hello, i have a Gateway Clientpro E-4620S. Pretty much the computer turns on and off as soon as you plug the cable into the power supply the on and off switch does not work it the Computer pretty much trys to turn on and off by its self as soon as you plug it in, also nothing comes up on the monitor, it seems like it wants to boot but then as soon as it starts to do it turns off and resets. I have changed the power supply and the hard drive, i have also unplugged all the internal drives and have taken out the memory and still nothing it still does the same thing, and it does not beep or no error codes come up or anything. This computer was working a couple days ago just fine and then i moved it and then this started happening and i have no clue what is going on with it so i hope someone can help me out thanks!!! ~~

The motherboard may have been loose causing it to shift and short out against the case.

Hi Mitchypoo, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

It sounds like a problem with the motherboard. The fact that you replaced the power supply and the computer still doesn't fully boot up sounds to me like the motherboard is shorting out. Adding to what Whiskeyman said make sure that the motherboard is properly secured and that all of the motherboard standoffs are in place. Also make sure that the power supply cables going to the motherboard aren't lose. If the motherboard is touching the case and shorting out then that is the cause of your issue.

You may have done this already but try reseating all of the connections and cables that connect to the motherboard. You can even check to see if there is any dust or dirt in the computer case as that could also create a few problems if particles get into the connections.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Please come back as soon as you can, to give those who have made suggestions some feedback.

It seems you have done some research, I would just suggest "clearing the CMOS ", which you could do by disconnecting the power and removing the battery on the motherboard for a minute or two.

If it "shuts down" rather than restarts, I would relate that to a heat problem. Check for dust as suggested, could the CPU be overheating? Check that all the fans are working.

I will move this to the Hardware forum.

Please try to punctuate your replies. Break them up into sentences. It is hard for us to read one long paragraph.

    Matt
