I always thought my financial transactions were perfectly safe after scanning with Malwarebytes. But I just learned the bad guys can put software to monitor my data transmissions on my computer, and Malwarebytes will not find it. What can I do to find and remove this software?

If you think you are infected then...

Please follow these instructions as indicated at the top of this forum.

If no current infection is suspected then please post in general security, this part of the board is for malware removal only.

The best approach is to use several different anti-malware programs and at least one good real time antivirus program. The antivirus software wiil monitor the computer's activity as you use it and if you think it has missed something then scan with the different anti-malware software.

What one program misses another may catch.

Thank you Tony, this is good input and I appreciate it. Someone told me there is software that will monitor your data transmissions. Is this in addition to key logging software? If so, how can I protect against it?

Someone told me I can get shot when walking in the street. Does that mean I would want to wear a bullet-resisting vest every time I walk out of the door?

    Don't think so.

Don't put yourself at risk & you'll have not much to worry about.

What you are referring to, in the computer world, is called "sniffing ". Software that can grab the transmission that are on the wire or in the air (wifi).

No need to worry about it. Your AM-FM radio in the car does the same thing, it captures and transcodes electronic transmissions.

For someone to monitor your transmissions, they would have to tap the wire or be nearby capturing the wireless transmissions.

Bluetooth (cell phone) can also be captured and easily hacked.

Heck, there are handheld devices that can read and capture the electronic data stored on your credit card, while it's in your wallet in your pocket.

James Bond & Q would be amazed at what's available today!

Thank you very much Tony, I knew I was concerned but did not realize how much. As I read your post I actually breathed a sigh of relief. You really helped me -- very much and I truly appreciate it.

When doing your banking and other sensitive stuff, just make sure that the web site has changed to HTTPS instead of the regular HTTP.

I use a little program from QFX Software that is FREE and trust it pretty well.

Thank you Mr. Bill, I never thought about scrambling software and it's a good idea. This will give me a little more peace of mind.
