Hi, this is my first post as I've never had a problem like this before. I've searched the web and tried many fixes but none of them seem to work so have felt the need to start it's own thread as I think this problem is different to the others! So here goes...

I have just copied everything from my old hard drive to a new HDD and have also installed a new mother board. Everything went smoothly and Windows runs fine but went to run Meia Player and none of my music was in the library. So checked the monitored folders and they are correct so told it to search and while it detects 4000 files it doesn't add them to the library. This is the kinda of result I get http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=764a31pwcw1plae&thumb=5

So I thought I had corrupted the files (which do play in WMP, just don't add) so ripped a brand new CD that had never been on the computer and it detects the song info, and rips to My Music but still doesn't add it to the library.

I have tried to followling fixes:
    • re-install WMP
    • delete/rename the %userprofile%/documents/WMP file thing
    • copy music to another folder, told it to monitor that folder
    • drag and drop files into library window
    • turn off the file sharing option in Admin Tools-Services...
    • deleted every file that had WMP, MEdia, Player on my computer, and WMP itself and re-installed everything from scratch
    • click apply media changes
    • deselect and reselect add music that I have deleted before

And still no joy, so I'm asking the world now what my next step should be! I could see why something might of gone bad with my old music after a new MOBO and HDD, I just don't understand why it doesn't even recognise a brand new CD! Help, please! Mike

Hi and welcome to the Windows BBS.
A couple of questions spring to mind. When you installed the new motherboard did you install your Audio drivers, do you have KLite Codecs installed, what file format is your music in, MP3 or whatever. Are the file-types that you are using ticked on in your WMP file types. In XP "My Music" is WMP Default Folder, WMP will look there automatically and normally if the file-type is recognized by WMP it will automatically list them in your Library.

Have you tried to rebuild the WMP database?

Thanks for the reply folks. I installed the AC97 drivers which I'm assuming you mean, I get all the sound I expect to get so don't think that is a problem unless there is something I don;t know about.

I don't think I have Klite codecs. I searched Klite and PPKLite came up as an Adobe plug-in which doesn't sound like a codec? Also I don't have any extra codecs (assuming PPKLite isn't one) other then standard issue WMP ones. Only just got the computer going so not got much installed.

My Music files are a mix of mp3 and WMA, but all file types are selected in WMP and the program has worked with all the music before.

And yes have tried to rebuild the database by renaming/deleting/moving the folder/files and still nothing.

WMP is detecting the music fine, and can play it fine, it just has it in it's head that it either thinks it already has the music in its library or it just doesn't want to add it at all?

Thanks for the ideas but no joy yet...

Unfortunately both the bottom 2 links are for the sameish solution of deleting/renaming the Media Player folder making WMP create a new fodler that is blank and restarting the database. But I don't think it is to do with this because WMP isn't adding brand new music that I'm adding not just not addingold music I've got.

So may give Microsoft an emil and see if any of their folks can figure this out, maybe I can help some others out if I can find a fix?

Let you know how it goes!

Okies...tried to ask anyone at Microsoft and turns out it costs a gazillion pounds to talk to a technician so just gonna give up on WMP and use something else.

Thanks for the help from everyone but gonna mark this one as "solved ".
