I'm running XP Pro, IE8, and Trend Micro Internet Security. This is crazy, when I reboot or initially turn on the computer, there is a young man's voice that comes on immediately and explains how to clean the cookies, temporary files and cache. When the person is speaking there is also someone speaking in the background. The person speaking about steps to clean up the computer is speaking over the other voice to the point of understanding what he is saying, but the background voice is garbled. Has anyone seen or heard of this problem before? My computer is kept clean and works wonderfully, but this voice is somewhat aggravating, and I would prefer to remove the message spoken.

When did this start ? After you installed Trend Micro ? What happens if you disconnect from the net & then boot ?

I just opened my gmail and the same voice message came through once again. I've noticed this taking place for a couple of weeks.

I run Malwarebytes and have not found a problem, but I guess that is not to say there cannot be one.

Malwarebytes is a solid product, but it cannot search for ALL malwares. Better to take an expert opinion before proceeding further.

I looked at the forum and it appeared they wanted you to supply a great deal of information up front. What is actually necessary to post in that particular forum?

Wiped the computer clean and did a reinstall of the operating system, everything working perfectly. I think a clean and install should be done once a year, so it was that time anyway. Thanks for all taking the time to offer help.

Is it XP you are talking about or Win98/ME.

Had run XP for nearly 5 years, without wiping/clean installing anything. Its just another myth.

XP Pro, and yes I have also run the operating system with very little problems for an extended period of time. The problem I recently encountered was not very noticeable, and most people would not have used a destructive recovery with everything else working great. I am only contending over a period of time files become over written, and some corruption is always involved. It may not be enough to bother some people; but if everything is not working to perfection, I am the type person that wants the perfection back. I think most professional computer technicians will tell you it is a very good idea to clean your hard-drive and reinstall the operating system yearly for optimum performance. This is only a matter of preference, when I touch a button on my computer I expect perfect instantaneous response to exactly what I commanded, and this is what I have always gotten. Most people encounter and work with lag time on computers, I do not. I can promise you have corrupted files that is slowing your computers response time, but you have gotten use to the way it reacts and have kept yourself satisfied with the end result. You would be amazed at the difference a clean operating system makes in responsiveness.
