2 month old computer. Worked fine until now. Now, turn on computer and the Dell Logo appears (Dell computer) and it just sits there (not freeze, just sits). After 4 minutes (timer) it comes on and says Windows Starting, then it loads Windows and all is fine. No problems with Windows.

This happened when the computer was 1 month old. Dell sent a rep and replaced the HD. All went perfect as when new. Then it came up and would not boot into Windows. Dell sent a rep out and replaced the HD again.

Ran perfectly. Then last week, started same thing...Dell Logo appears and it just sits there for abouit 4 minutes, then Windows loads and works just fine.

Dell is now sending a new HD, Motherboard, memory, etc. I am not sure this will solve problem but Dell is really trying.

I deleted all start up programs, rebooted, and computer still hangs at the Dell Logo. Then in about 4 minutes, Windows boots normally.

I deleted all running processes, etc., and rebooted. Got to the Dell Logo and it just sat there. Then after about 2-3 minutes, it booted into Windows and all works fine.

I have added no programs (why do that until it gets fixed). It appears Windows works fine...when I get into Windows.

When new HD's are installed, it boots fine for 2-3 days and then this problem happens. Have ran many on-line scans, and MalwareBites and found nothing.

Can anyone give me a clue? And thanks anyway...

Plugging in USB devices (drives/printers) can cause symtons like this.

I'd wait for Dell, your PC is still under warranty, I don't know the laws wherever you are but here in the UK I'd be insisting on a replacement if the next repair doesn't work.

I do hope a tech is coming out to install this Motherboard etc.

Understand what you're saying Ryan but reading whodowhat's post suggests the error is either hardware or firmware, there's no suggestion whatsoever that the OS is an issue.

Tech installed new HD; new Motherboard; new memory. All seems to work but cannot enter System Restore. Gives me an error...cannot create restore point. Do not know where to turn.

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Post the exact error message related to the problem from your Event Log.

Open Event Viewer (Start and type eventvwr.msc in the Start Search box & hit Enter)

Check your System logs under Windows Logs for errors.

You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

    Boot Problems

Thanks for all responses. I am going to consider this closed for now because of bigger problems. All parts replaced and problem seems to be resolved but as I said. bigger problems. But for now thank all of you and I consider the Boot Problem closed.

Well, if the motherboard, memory, hdd were replaced and it works, sounds good. However, to me, it sounds like bad hardware. Sounds like maybe the hdd controller was bad or at least flaky.
