I can click on a .Bmp or .JPG Picture and some times it opens or not. When it does not open I get "Remote Procedure Call Failed ". If I try later the original Picture may open or not. Other Pictures in the same Folder may open or not. If I go back to the original tomorrow it will open on the first try.

Now I notice the same problem with Shortcuts. I guess I did not realize it was happening in Shortcuts. Why does these things happen in Windows 7.

You mean in your Windows 7. Mine works fine.

I suggest you test for Malware first:

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Try doing a system restore and see if you're able to open these files after performing one.

I have tried System Restore. I do not think I can go back far enough to help with the problem.

Still doesn't tell me anything, I don't see any recent logs in our Malware forum.

Only other thing that comes to mind would be a 3rd party Shell extension.

I do not have what I would call a crash. Today I Disabled 3rd party Shell Extensions. Checked for the problem and I still have the same problems. I check for Malware with Spybot and Add-Aware. Here are the 3rd party shell extensions.
    BlueWire General Property Sheet
    Desktop Contex Class NVIDIA
    Explorer BHO Class
    Lavasoft Shell Extension
    NSE SubField HP
    NVIDIA Cpl Contex Menu Extension
    NVIDIA Cpl Extension
Shell Extension For Malware Scanning AntiVir
    Classic Explorer Bar
    Classic CopyExt Class

I did not intend to download and install Windows Service Pack 1 untill later. Today I was in a hurry and downloaded Updates and SP 1. I did not notice until I used Defrag and saw that it found 350 fragmented files. That seems a lot. Now when I try to open a picture I sometimes get a notice "COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working ". I can do nothing untill I get rid of the notice. The only other thing that has changed is that Shortcuts now open at once. I wonder if I have wait for Service Pack 2 to get everything to where they belong.

I got this "You Can Not Set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables." I came upon this problem after download of Window 7 SP 1. I tried Reliability Monitor in Windows 7 and did not find COM Surrogate. If I can find the unistall for sp 1, I would uninstall and see if that cures the problem.

I got to System Properties, Performance Options, Data Execution Prevention. I do not know how to change the path to syswow64/dllhost.exe.

Perhaps you should be looking at the applications that commonly cause this issue or post in malware as suggested earlier by Arie.

Our Malware and Virus Removal Analysts/Experts have tools that find malware and/or virus that Spybot and Adaware might have missed.
