A right click on desk top icons produces a drop down menu. The first item on this menu is open and this has stopped working. How can I reinstate or repair this?

    Welcome to WindowBBS;)

Can you give us a couple examples of what you're trying to Open?

Double clicking should have the same results as the Open option.

The menu open will not open any of the icons on my desktop. A double click opens any icon on my desktop.
Examples of icons that are shortcuts on my desktop are Firefox, Word and Excel.

Do you have any desktop managers, like Google Desktop Manager? If so, try uninstalling them.

I use Avira, Spybot and Malwarebytes and at present I think I am clear of any infections. I presume that my registry is probably corrupted and will follow this up. I am closing this thread with thanks for your help.
