I have a panasonic digital camera (new) and when i plug it into my USB port it`s supposed to appear in "my computer" as a mass storage device or a removable storage device. This doesn`t happen.
    I`m running XP.
I have a phone with a usb lead and that seems to show up no problem.

When i plug in the camera it brings up the new hardware wizard which asks me to install the software CD, if I have one which i do but still have no luck.
In device manager the camera appears as an unknown device with a yellow question mark over the icon. When i click on properties i get the "code 28 - the drivers for this device are not installed" message.
To remedy this problem i bought a memory card and a reader thinking this would work but I have exactly the same problem with this device.
I`m thinking it`s a problem with windows drivers rather than both devices, and I can`t find any info on this type of problem on the microsoft site:(

    Welcome to BBS.

I think this is a problem with the drivers for both devices, camera and card reader. Is that card reader external?

Uninstall the drivers and/or software for camera and card reader. Plug the camera into the USB port and switch it on. Follow the prompts to install the drivers, when asked if you have a disc answer yes and insert the disc when requested. You can follow this with installing the camera software. After a reboot test to see if has worked. You should be able to follow a similar process for the card reader.

If the problem continues please advise the make and model of the camera and card reader and complete your system details as follows:

I am sure I can find a driver for your camera on-line but, meanwhile you have not supplied the details of the card reader or filled in your system details as requested. Please make sure you add what Service Pack you have with XP.

Have you tried what I suggested to install the drivers?

Our posts just crossed. It sounds like you may have some other driver problems.

First and foremost please complete your system specs as requested.

Secondly, do you have a Windows XP disc.

OK, in the link for entering system details there is a software program you can download that will show all the info you need to put in the system detail. Its called System Information for Windows (SIW) just click on it and download to desktop, install it and run it, it will list details of everything on your PC. If you still have a problem with this please tell me the make and model number of your PC. Also the make and model number of the card reader.

Do you know what Service Pack you have installed, SP1,2 or 3. To find out click on Start (bottom left corner of screen), right click on My Computer, under the general tab will be the details of your version of windows and the service pack number, Put that information in your next post.

To be of any use the Windows XP disc (you may be able to borrow) needs to be up to the same SP level, or higher, than what you have installed and it needs to be the same version of XP.

The disc is needed to run a "Repair" install to put back in place anything you have altered.

The other option is to run through the driver installation bit by bit, which I will guide you through.

You are about to go on a learning curve:)
