Hi, Im trying to setup PPPoE connections on several computers for different folks I know and keep running into this error 651. At first the ISP said it was UN/PW issue but we know now it is not that. I went ahead and logged into the modems for these folks and set the PPPoE connection up there and it will now register as connected on the logs for the ISP but it still will not recognize the "unidentified network" on the computer. Several different types of brand new modems and several different Win-7 computers. I also tried IPconfig release/renew and it does not fix anything. I also tried pinging but it will fail every time. Someone told me, at the ISP, that this is a windows 7 bug (although they call it a design) and that it will be resolved in a service pack update come January. Any ideas?

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

You can find downloads linked on the Internet, not that I would ever in my life use a system file found on an Internet site on my system!

I would suggest that you make sure you have the latest network driver from your computer manufacturer.

Also, if you have Adobe (or Apple) software installed, disable the Bonjour service.

Adobe Creative Suite and Creative Suite point products and Bonjour for Windows (CS3, CS4, Windows)

Thanks I will give that fix a shot and let you know soon. This is happening on three different computers that belong to friends/neighbors. They are all Windows 7. Will try to get the makes/models.

Also: are you sure you need to set up PPPoE? This type of connection isn't used much these days. Which ISP?

It says page cant be displayed and also will not ping. It is the strangest thing. Ive been told its a Win-7 thing. Not sure what ill try next. I didnt have any luck with the raspppoe file replacement.

Not sure if this will help, it is a solution I found a while ago for error 651, no guarantee.

There should be no need to do this, and like I said: not that I would ever in my life use a system file found on an Internet site on my system.

Call the ISP & get a new modem.

    That fixed this case.
