I had this all in one printer installed last yr but disconnected it for awhile..tried to reinstall with the cd that came with it..went through all the prompts and it made files etc..came to ending prompt and it says it cannot install printer..I have a weird (almost what I would call "Phantom" because I cant locate this file or problem) windows installer box that comes on when I start up my computer and I cant locate that in my add/remove program..this has been coming on for months now but I cant seem to remove or unistall windows installer..I know it has been slowing down my startup ..also on bottom right of my computer screen I see a icon that says "Intel (R) Extreme Graphics" that I never put on here..I was wondering would this be hindering me trying to install this printer? I dont know if all this is related or connected in some way...I would like advice on how to take those two things off (Intel Extreme Graphics and Windows Installer) and then know what Iam doing wrong that my printer cant install..I dont even know if I have the printer connected to the right port in the back of my tower..there is 4 ports that would accept it but I dont know which one...I loaded the cd that came with the printer into the first slit on my tower that says "Cd rom" is that the correct spot of the other slit that says "expansion bay "..the printer does work but I havent had it connected in awhile..also when I push the on button on the printer it dosent light up which would indicate maybe thats the problem..dont know..help would be appreciated in simple terms...computer challenged..thanx...

This maybe a stupid question but is the printer plugged into an electrical wall socket?

Oceangurl, I got this in a private message but your settings do not allow any email replies. Please make sure you put all future messages in this thread so everyone can see them.

The instruction in the link I gave you describes how to add your system details to your profile. You see below my name, to the left of this post, "My System ", that will appear below your name when you complete it. This makes it easier for us to answer your problem as we can see at a glance what you have in your PC.

This final instruction is easily missed but needs to be done to make your system details available:
You first need to check that your printer is listed in the "Devices & Printers" (available from "Control Panel ") and that it is set as the default printer. Have you changed OS since the printer was last working?

Oh goody! Iam so happy!! It did! Now thats done...I have a few updates about something I did this morning..I found out I had a cable that wasnt connected to the back of my printer...plugged that in and I was able to start my printer..light coming on now and ready to go..that was a big part of this problem..tried to reinstall my printer with cd thinking logically this was the end of problem but tried to reinstall it two times ..got all the way through the process and at the end it still couldnt connect..Iam certain (and I really dont know to much but..) that the problem is with that phatom Windows Installer file that blinks in and out (the box stating it) with the intial startup..I think the Windows Installer has something to do with the installation of my printer and since the file is either halfed installed or cant be found this is the problem..I have had this Phantom file for months now and have just lived with it just bearing with the consquenses of it interferring with my startup (making it slow) . I have tried to find this Windows Installer in my Add/Remove programs and its not even listed..dont know how to locate it since its beyond my knowledge and is in cyberspace somewhere in my computer..I dont even know how it got there as I didnt try fooling with it ever but still it must have been something I done along the way...if we can locate this thing maybe we can uninstall it then reinstall it? I dont know..and would this be the reason that I cant connect my printer? Because it goes fine through all the steps but cant complete because Iam guessing this Windows Installer...thank you Mark for being so patient with me..Iam learning alot...smile....

Your system details have only three entries. Please advise what OS you are using. Click on "My System" in the profile box nest to your post and you will see what is in it.

The window installer is needed for the installation of some software installations and is probably damaged.

This link tells you how to uninsall it.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315353 This is only for windows xp and home so don't use if you have any other OS.

Do you have your OS disc?

In reply to post 12. Thanks for that, but do you have the OS disc which will be XP or 2000, not both?

In reply to post 13. I though you might say that, a Repair install may fix it but I need to know if you have the OS disc.

Unfortunately there is no uninstaller for the Windows Installer that I am aware of. I did find one but it was not free.

Click on Start then right click on Computer and select properties, you should then be able to see what the operating system is. I still need to know that:)

I am sure there are plenty of sites where you can get the Windows installer but I was trying to find a free one:)

Do you have any discs associated with your PC?

I have found the microsoft articles for uninstalling and re-installing the windows installer but just need to confirm your OS.

The uninstall isn't straightforward but all you have to do is follow the instructions and be very carefull what you type;)

Ok here is what to do.

I hope this is not to complicated, just take your time and you will get there.

You must have windows update turned off or you would already have service pack 3. It is important to keep your system up to date as a lot of the microsoft updates relate to security issue and also some bug fixes.

If you get any error messages please report back with the whole message.

    Hi Mark! :)

I installed the service pack 3 and then tryed to install my printer..intially befoe I put in the printer cd that same vogue file "Windows Installer" was blinking in and out...went through all the steps and it was even acknowledging that the hardware was accepted and connecting..but at the very end I recieved a box that said " The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance, then a small white box stating "ok" so I clicked out of there and received another box stating " HP all-in-one series (at the top of box) and under it "the intallation was not successful. " and it proceeded to tell you instructions on how to recover the installation which was to unistall it and try again. I unistalled it and didnt try again but when I restarted computer the white Windows Installer box kept popping in and out. I think we are half way there but Iam awaiting your next response..thank you so much Mark...;)
