My computer recently had an error, when I log on to desktop, several minutes later the computer would just reboot. Upon rebooted, I get a windows has recovered from serious error. I can boot in safe mode, scanned with Combofix instructed by Broni, i have scanned with lots of programs so I'm pretty sure it's not a virus. My computer is windows xp home edition intel processor 3.06g hz, 512 mb ram sp3.
Any help would be greatly appreiciated as i have been trying to kill this problem for the past 3 weeks.

A description of your Stop Error .....
As you can boot successfully into Safe Mode this is indicative of a driver problem - Safe Mode uses only Windows basic drivers.

Set up the computer so that it does not automatically restart on system failure .....

Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings ....

Under System failure uncheck 'Automatically restart' and under Write debugging information select 'Kernel memory dump' from the dropdown list and OK out.

The computer will now show the BSOD in the event of a System failure giving details of the Stop message and the contents of the memory will be dumped to disk.

Run the dump data through BlueScreenView and generate a report and paste it here.

I can not save. When I press on save selected items, the program crashes.

If I was in your shoes I start with formatting & reinstalling the OS.

I have been reviewing your threads this morning - I had hoped that BlueScreenView might have identified a driver issue, but it did not. ntoskrnl.exe is a core Windows file.

We have virtually no information re. your system - not even the XP Service Pack which is installed. Given the problems outlined in your other thread you may be unable to follow the instructions given in the link below and SIW does not run in Safe Mode .....

Immediately prior to this issue had you installed any new hardware or software, updated any drivers, etc.?

I agree with Arie that your best option may be to reformat and make a clean install - if you have a retail XP installation CD at the same Service Pack level as the installed OS you could consider a Repair install. There is no guarantee that this will resolve the problem if it is hardware related.

Either way round you need a complete backup of all your important data.

I suggest you try rolling back the drivers through Device Manager and see if the issue remains - do one at a time and test, not both together.

well, the same day, before I get bsod, I rollbacked the audio driver because it did not work. I rollbacked the video card but i'm really not sure what happened. You see, installed a program called Gamebooster 2 by iobit. It said that there was 2 drivers were not the latest so I update them. When I updated the video card, it said that there it still wasnt updated. So I rollbacked and then GameBooster 2 stopped working. How do you check if you dont have the latest driver?

The driver installed is shown in Device Manager .....

Expand Display Adapters by clicking on the + sign

Right click on the graphics card > Properties > Driver Tab

Note the driver date and driver version and compare with the latest driver on offer at the manyfacturer's web site.

You can do the same for the audio.

Dam, my video card driver is Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family which isn't supported by intel now because it is too old. Do you know of any driver databases other then the main intel site to download drivers?

If the computer is an OEM such as HP, Gateway you should find the drivers on their site under your model no.

Please post the make and model no. of your computer
Are you sure you have the correct driver? I would like the opportunity to check for you, so make and model no. of the computer please.

Your first step should be to try rolling back the driver through Device Manager as I posted earlier - this should install the driver which was loaded before you updated it (screenshot) .....

If this fails for any reason the next step is Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (XP) - look for Intel Graphics Media Accelerator or similar and uninstall it.

Then run the driver you have downloaded. I assume it is a .exe file which you double click to run.

I am concerned that you may not have downloaded the correct driver, but if you are confident go ahead and install it.
