Windows Mail has stopped working

    Recently, this message continually appears. Why and how do I get it to stop?

    "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution. "

    If the upgrade suggested does not fix this problem beware, all to often odd behaviour can be caused by a virus or malware. Visit our Malware and Virus forum to check that your PC is completely clean if you have any doubt.

    Sorry, didn't understand your solution. I'm having a problem with an error message popping up when using Windows eMail, not in Windows Messenger.

    The suggestion by Mopar is a good one and may well cure the problem, this is the link for the download, try it and see what happens.

    If the problem persists we can investigate further, as I said earlier, it could be a virus or malware. If you need further help please tell us what your OS is.

    It could even be your virus/malware software that is causing the problem even if it has been OK in the past. Try disabling it.

    I upgraded, following the link you provided. I did not receive the error for a couple of days, but today "Windows Mail has stopped working" returned.

    Operating system is Vista, version 6.0.6000.16386

    In your last post you said "Windows Mail" you still get the error.

    Did you download and install Windows Live Mail like I suggested?
    If so don't worry about Windows Mail.

    I downloaded MS Security Essentials and ran a full scan, but the error continues.

    OK, having a look through your error logs would be usefull to see what is happening, as Arie had suggested.

    You said in post 6:
    This error is from Windows Mail not Windows Live Mail which you say you upgraded to:confused:. Did you actually upgrade to Windows Live Mail as this is the most common fix for the problem you have been having.

    What antivirus software are you running, some versions of McAfee and Norton are known to have issues with Windows Mail.

    Had you made any changes on the computer just prior to the problem starting. This should include everything you can remember, any new software, any uninstalls, any changes to settings, etc.

    My Dell computer came with both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail. I use Windows Mail. I updated Windows Mail. I did not update Windows Live Mail. I have McAfee as my antivirus software. I checked for any new software installs, upgrades and I didn't see anything that came to mind that I recently changed when the problem started.

    I can only think of two more things you could try. Download Microsoft Security Essentials to keep you computer protected and completely uninstall McAfee, this is the link.

    You could try using Windows Live Mail for a while to see if the problem persists.

    Please try only one of these suggestions at a time so as to isolate the problem, I think the Virus software is the most likley cause so I would encourage you to try this first.

    This link gives you the instructions for complete removal of all McAfee products. Please read through all the instructions.
