I have been using MS Security Essentials exclusively for protection on my new HP laptop for about 6 months now and have been very happy with it. I was under the understanding that this is all I needed for security.
Well I just went snooping around in my HP and found something called the HP Advisor and it tells me I have no virus protection installed.
I Thought SE would take the place of my AVG, Spybot S&D, Adaware etc. Was I ill advised by MS?
    Anyone have any suggestions.

Hi Floyd. As with any security program just having one of them installed won't keep your computer 100% secure since there will always be malware that one security program will fail to catch but another might.

You should have only one antivirus program active on the machine at a time since having more than 1 can cause conflicts. But having an antispyware program active on the machine with MSE won't hurt.

I have Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster installed and active with MSE running and haven't experienced any issues on the dozens of machines that I have installed them on.

I realize this is resolved but, I have MSE with a hosts file from mvps hosts and I run Malwarebytes AntiMalware about once ever ten days or so. Haven't had any problems.

I have AVG running..will MSE interfere? Will MSE check my emails like AVG does?

Hi Bigalx58. If you have AVG installed and running then you don't need to install MSE. You should only have one antivirus running on your computer at a time otherwise they can cause conflicts and other issues.

Choose which antivirus program you want to use, either AVG or MSE not both.

Thanks...I was under the impression that MSE was better...used less resources etc.

MSE does actually use less resources than AVG but its up to you whether you want to install it or not.
