incorrect symbol on keyboard (pound sign shows as #)

How do I correct the wrong symbols/letters being typed on my laptop keyboard? I am unable to type the pound sign although the pound sign symbol is on the keyboard.

This post should ideally go into Software [OS] section & not in Hardware section as its not a hardware problem.

Go to Control Panel & switch your Language to British English. Reboot. That should do it.

As rsinfo stated this is not a hardware matter, if you require more precise instructions then post in the board for your OS and someone will definitely assist.
