I have a video capture program and in the settings section there's an option to capture sound with the video. However, that option is grayed out and not available to me. What is the most likely cause of this issue? I would like to capture sound along with the video.

P.S. I have no problem with sounds on my computer including windows sounds, Media Player sounds, speech, etc.

Would be helpful to post the name of the software.

I have no microphone hooked up to my computer so that's about all the sound section tells me. Everything else is working fine as far a Stereo enabled, L & R speakers, etc.
Still can't get the option to become available.

    Thanks for the link.

    AceH,

It could be a hardware issue, if you include your system details in your profile it may assist in resolving this.

Please add your system details to your profile. Click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile

If you do add your system specifications be sure to do the above :)

I think it's my hardware. Below are the instructions from the program telling how to get sound.

"Capture the microphone as well offers the possibility to record the sound of your microphone. Please keep in mind that there is a difference between capturing the microphone and capturing the playback of your sound card. The microphone will be captured in every case (if your sound card is okay) but Ashampoo Snap 3 will only capture the playback (the sound you hear from your speakers while the capture is done) of sound cards supporting special recording modes like "What U Hear" (et al.). "

P.S. I have a Dell Inspiron 530S running Win Vista Home Premium.

I setup the same program on my old laptop with Win XP and it works. I noticed under Win XP, there's the option to select sound output from "wave mix output" which is how the sound is recorded with this program. With the Win Vista Home Premium system I don't see the "wave mix output" option. This appears to be the problem.

As matt posted probably best asked either in the Vista or other software board.

    Sorry...

for posting in the wrong forum. Since I have both Vista and XP systems, I got confused.

I'll mark this post as resolved since it appears to be a hardware issue.
