I have 6 Shortcuts in the Quick Launch. I Boot or Reboot and the Shortcuts move from the line up where I like to have them. Also after Boot or Reboot, the area where they are shown changes to 3 Shortcuts.

On your taskbar do you see a >> only or is there a greyed line there as well? If there is no grey line then rightclick on the taskbar and select unlock. Then you can move it to where yoiu want it and lock it back.

I have done that. It makes no difference whether it is locked or unlocked. When I do a Boot or Reboot, The area gets shorter and Shortcuts move. When the area gets shorter, I see >> and 3 Shortcuts. I can move the grey line and lock it. The Shortcuts will still move.

I am not sure there is any thing to fix my problem in it. I am also not sure I should put my credit card numbers, phone numbers and other information out over the internet. It may be allright but I do not know.

I was not suggesting using the pay for version, just the freebie :)

I've not had a problem like this myself so this is a shot in the dark but might just help.

Right click in a blank area of the desktop, from the dropdown menu select 'Arrange icons by' then from the next dropdown menu see if there is a check mark next to 'Auto arrange' if so clear the check mark.

If that suggestion has failed then I would next try deleting all the problem icons, create new shortcuts and then move the ones you want to the quick launch area.

I have had icons move before but only when I have had a system crash so not sure what else to suggest.

None of the "Freebies" help me. Arrange icons is Align to Grid. I have moved Shortcuts in and out. Does not help. I have deleted Shortcuts, and created new ones. No help. I moved 3 Shortcuts to the Desktop, and next Bootup, the 3 Shortcuts on the Quick Launch Bar were moved.

    Another stab in the dark:

Right click on the start button > properties > taskbar. Untick the show quick launch and reboot. When your computer has booted up go back and tick the show quick launch. You may or may not have to reboot again.

Try this link, scroll down the list and click on item 164 'Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality' when the box comes up click run. (Don't worry it is free) I got this from another forum where it succesfully cured a similar problem.

It's another shot in the dark but just may work. I suspect that this fault is due to something in the registry getting messed up so you would be wise to run scans for viruses and malware.

Finally, I imagine there was a time when you did not have this fault, is there anything specific that you did just before the problem occured.

Food for thought....I always drag my task bar to double its normal size. Then, my six quick launch icon are there and no more >>.

If you are using the 'Classic' start menu, right click the Start key and select Properties. Click Customize. At the bottom of the properties for Start Menu is a box named "use personalized menus ". Make sure it is unchecked. To MS, 'personalize' means throw away everything except the last few things you have used. It sounds like what is happening to you.

If you are not using the classic Start menu, it will probably be somewhere else, and I can't help you. If you can't find it, temporarily choose the Classic Start Menu, and find it there.

    HINT:
If you set your cursor on the task bar, and drag it upwards, it will double the height, and you can then drag the Quick-Launch bar under it. This will give you a lot more room for Quick-Launch icons. I've got about 40 of them, and find it well worth the ¼ inch it takes off the bottom of the screen.

I went to "http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm" "Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality" and downloaded and clicked on it. I then started Quick Launch and put in all 6 of the shortcuts in the line I wanted. Then Locked the Taskbar and Rebooted. The 6 Shortcuts are sitting there in line the way I want them. Again the People at BBS came through. Thanks a lot.
