    At last the internet is a joy to use again.

    For anyone thinking about it don't. Mobile broadband is decent enough as a backup service but with downloads varying between 30kbps (that's bits per second :eek:) and 1600 kbps I now totally appreciate my 10mbps cable service. :D

    No Choice

    At least you have a choice. Here the only options are dial-up 5 KBps or mobile internet key, in my case 30 - 200 KBps, which compared to dialup is lightning speed.:D

    No cable or DSL available in my neighbour hood. Closest DSL is about 2 km away.:(

    Oh well, I guess that's what you have to put up with when you live out in the boonies.:eek:

    Just noticed your Flag.
    Just saw Braveheart.

    Wouldn’t think you’d be allowed cable and quick communications.

    Wildfire, I know the feeling. I ran out of Bandwith 10 days short of month and had to survive on 56K Modem speed. Thank goodness we're back on full Broadband again. Neil.:D

    I had 10mb/s but it was too expensive for me so had to drop to 3mb/s which supprisingly is fast enough for me; it's better than my previous wireless setup (Xanadoo used the cell tower to connect - best was 1.5mb/s on an extremely good day but mostly around 900k.

    The English do allow us some freedom :) I think they have to considering where the telephone came from in the first place ;)

    PS Sorry I've been absent but weather has been brilliant and who wants to be stuck on a computer during our 2 week summer :D

    @MC

    10 Mb/s is the slowest our cable provider offers (I can go up to 50:eek:) but for me 10 is plenty @ 12 UK Sterling per month :). Speed tests from various sites show a regular 9+MB/s service (I MegaByte per second download::cool:) whereas with mobile it would stutter from 30kbits/s to 1600 kbits/s. After numerous complaints to the provider they said they only offer up to 2.5Mbit/s, when I suggested I could use my V90 modem and achieve 45-50 KBits/s which at times was faster than their service I was basically told tough luck you get what we offer. Thankfully I hadn't signed a contract and swiftly left the service.
