Hello - I am new to site so please bear with me.

I switch on Fujtisu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop and goes through normal start up but beeps once (but a long beep) when it gets to the windows page. The mouse cursor is in the centre of the screen. Programmes load as normal but the mouse cursor won't move nor will any of the keyboard buttons work. Restarted laptop and can access F2 F8 & F12. P/S 2 mouse is installed as it is listed on start up screen.

Have tried going in to the different safe modes but same thing happens.

I am at pretty basic computer knowledge and have tried taking out keyboard and cleaning underneath to see if dust affecting connections but is ok. I am pretty stuck,as i can't do anything.

Laptop also will not allow me to run a windows xp disc as boot.

When windows starts up i can see my normal wallpaper and all files on desktop but i can't do anything. I can use the keyboard buttons when i entre the Boot menus.

    Please Can you help me?

    Andie

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Did you make ANY type of change to the pc prior to this issue starting?

If you unplg the ps2 mouse before bootup can you use the lappy's touchpad?

Have you tried pluggin in an external keyboard?

No no changes that am aware of, i did install anti virus a few days before hand though.

I dont normally use a external mouse as i normally just use the touchpad.

have tried both external mouse and keyboard. Mouse light up and laptop recognised keyboard/mouse were not installed.

I have tried taking out CMOS battrey, main battrey(tried to flatten battrey and recharged it), power cable.

I am so confused, and don't have any pennies to take it to the shop just now.

    Hi Andie,

Can't say I've seen this before but a small tip that often works with laptop BIOS/CMOS issues (and this appears to be one).

Remove your main battery and disconnect the PSU from the mains then press and hold the on button for 30 seconds, reconnect battery and/or mains and let us know how you get on.

    Sorry Andie,

I'm purely guessing here but it could be your memory, try downloading and burning memtest to a CD and see if it picks up any problems.

Check the boot order in BIOS - CD-Rom > Hard Drive

    Hello Guys

Thanks for all of your help. Ended up taking the laptop to shop. Turns out it was a virus that attacked the software. They informed me they never seen one that affected the CD room mouse and keyboard all together. So for future reference this might be the problem if it happens to you.

    Thanks again for the suggestions!

    Andie

For your own peace of mind head over to the Malware & Virus Removal forum to ensure that the machine is clean.

Please read this as indicated at the head of that forum and post the logs requested in a new thread, noting the reason why you are there :) - Virus disabled mouse and keyboard .....
