    I use XP pro -
    - before yesterday I could listen to music online and watch television shows online on my computer;
    - I downloaded and installed adobe reader;
    - I installed Windows Media Center (which was on my computer already)
    - yesterday, when I tried to listen to music on Jango all I could hear was the instrumental part of the music and faintly, in the background I can hear the vocals
    - the same happened when I tried to watch a television show early this morning - the video portion is fine and the background sounds as well as the background music all plays - but no voices.
    - I have headset selected for my audio - the same one I was using before.

Other then the changes that I noted everything remains the same.

    - I uninstalled adobe reader
    - reinstalled adobe flash player (Jango kept attempting to do that, so I allowed it)
    - disabled Window's Media Centre
    - Ran a virus scan - no viruses detected

    The problem persists.

Test using a music CD, DVD or mp3 or does it only happen when you are trying to stream over the internet? If it is isolated to streaming, look at the player and the Jango program if that is managing the stream. You can uninstall Adobe Flash Player from Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, then download and install the latest version from the Adobe website. I would look closely at Jango if it is "controlling" the streaming and uninstall & reinstall that if it seemed a possible cause.

Let us know if is just streaming or all music that is affected.

My first move would be a system restore to before you had the problem. Then make changes one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.

Click Start, > All Programs, > Accessories, > System Tools, > System Restore.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to,
    and then click Next.

    Confirm, Click Next

The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK.

Sorry MATTMAN I was in the middle of a phone call while replying, didn't mean to step over you

Hello, and thank you both for your prompt replies.

I tried the system restore as this seemed like a logical move. Just a note on that; I didn't get a "Restoration Complete" page - actually, I got a completely blank screen (not blue) just my wallpaper without icons or a bottom task bar. Totally freaked me! I did a reboot with C-A-D and altho it was very sluggish to respond I did get the manager window and could reboot. When it did, everything was back on my desktop screen.

After fiddling with volumes and whatnot, I asked a friend who said that it sounded like my speakers (or headset in my case) just wasn't getting a channel and I should unplug my jacks and plug them back in. Lo and Behold! I heard the music out of the speakers in my tower, complete with voices singing. I did too!

I'm going to replace my headset, although I've no clue how it went to working one day and not the next. Now, if I can figure out how to get the volume a bit louder since I've got the controls all set to maximum.

Lastly, thank you both for responding and I did learn how to restore to a previous date, which I didn't know before. Thank you!

I believe that I have given sufficient response to indicate how my problem was resolved.

I'll mark it as resolved - I gather that this is for statistical purposes and allows your site to claim a percentage of problems as being replied to and a plus in your helpful column is of benefit to you.

Although my problem was not solved by this site, there was benefit to me at that time of the morning just going to a site and representing my problem and feeling as if I'd done something constructive! So, again thank you for being there.

We find marking Resolved saves anyone that might think they could offer a suggestion having to read through the thread only to find it has to come a resolution (we don't say "Solved ", it doesn't necessarily have a solution).

    Glad if we helped.

In that case, a BIG thank you! I hadn't considered other readers wanting to supply a remedy and that "resolved" would permit them to spend their time and effort where it could do the most good. Thank you for clearing it up.

    :)

Hi, Katral. Belated welcome to Windows BBS! :)

    [No need to respond.] :)

Another couple reasons (from a different perspective)...

    1. When other people with similar problems are looking through the Windows BBS site for a solution, they instantly know "your thread" contains a potential solution. Many threads go unresolved and one must spend time/effort read those unresolved threads to determine whether or not they're useful.
    2. When people use a search engine such as Google to locate possible solutions to their problems, they instantly see the [Resolved] tag in their search results list and can quickly investigate threads marked "[Resolved]" first.

Search engines might also rank [ "Resolved]" threads higher than forum threads that do not have such a tag. If so, then those forum thread titles may show up on the first page or two of search results.
