    Hi friends,
I am new at this forum.I have lost too much system files in my C Drive. Now i am facing problems. My system installs many applications, but i can't install some favourite applications like Moo0 Audio Effecter etc.I downloaded Dbgeng.dll file from a site, put it into system32,but i am unable to register it.Therefore problem is still.I don't have much experience or informations. Therefore i have decided to format my system with Windows Automated System Recovery Disk.Is any CD Disk available in market? And if i use this method,my C Drive will be format or my whole Hard Disk?Coz i restore only my system, not my other partitions.Plz help me.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)

I think you are misunderstanding the use of Automated System Recovery - only available in XP Professional. It is a means of restoring your system from a backup you have made using the ASR Wizard. ( Note - the computer must be fitted with a floppy drive - most aren't nowadays so ASR is basically outdated).

There is an explanation here in our Helpfile .....

How to Set up and Use Automated System Recovery in Windows XP

You should be looking at a Repair of XP for which you will require an installation CD at the same Service Pack level as the installation of XP on the computer.

What sort of XP installation CD do you have - a Retail copy at SP? or a Recovery Disk?

A Repair install in which your data, programs are untouched (your important data should always be backed up regularly to external media) basically installs Windows over itself.

If you have a Recovery disk this will format the drive and return it to the condition in which the computer was delivered. All partitions will be removed and all data wiped off the drive.

Your problems with Library files may be resolved by running System File Checker, but this too requires an installation CD at the same Service Pack level to run.

If you post what sort of installation CD you have and it's Service Pack level we can take this further.

Also post your Operating System - XP Home/Pro ... and the SP installed - SP 1,2 or 3.

It would also be helpful to post the error messages received when an installation fails.

Have you installed the chipset and other drivers (including the modem) for Vista? These are available on the motherboard (or Computer manufacturer's) web site.

The modem driver itself should also be available from the modem manufacturer's web site. You can identify the modem in Device Manager.

    Please note:

    1. This has nothing to do with the original problem, so you should have posted a new thread instead

    2. You are now running Vista, not XP as before. Vista related questions should be asked in the Vista forum
