Everyone complained about using this computer being slow and just not working right, I did the usual, I ran 2 different virus scans at 2 different times, these were clean Removed several things from my window's star up. Made sure all updates were current.Cleaned up machine, did not defrag, wasn't needed. Ran complete diagnostics and received error code 2000-0111. While on the phone with Dell regarding another issue that is under warranty, I asked about the error code.Dell suggested I download BIOS but I can't get it to download. I know it is the right driver because when I enter my service tag, my computer comes up with the correct drivers.
I have Windows 7 which was upgraded from the original XP.
    Can I get some help.?
Forgot to tell you that when I download, I get a small black screen which looks like a DOS screen, and that's all that happens.
    Thanks,
    Dee

There's not enough information to help you.

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Dee - follow the URL Arie posted - no copy/paste - please follow the guide, then your System details will be listed under your name in each post you make.

Click on My System under my name to the left - that is what we are after :)

You can only have one computer under My System - your main, everyday computer.

Post the details of the 'slow'computer' - Model No.

If you have filled in System Details you have missed out a step :) .....
Not until we know the model no. of the Dell - then we can check out the BIOS download :)

I tried to download SIW but it says I need permission from the administrator, I am the administrator. It also says it needs to be elevated. This message comes up after the installation.

I have looked at your Profile on the BBS - you have not checked to show your System Specifications - as I posted above .....
We are looking at a Dell Lattitude 1311 laptop fitted with 1 Gb RAM running Windows 7 x64 - are these details correct?

Therein lies the base cause of slow running - 1 Gb RAM

    Windows 7 x64 requires a minimum of 2 Gb RAM .....

    Windows 7 system requirements
Looking at the Dell Drivers & Downloads page there is not a Latitude 1311 listed - the 131L is listed for which there are no Windows 7 drivers available.

Would you please confirm the Model no.
I updated my installation of SIW to the latest version ....

If you leave the check box to Run SIW checked on the last installation screen you will see the message you noted.

However if you double click on the desktop icon it will run - if not right click on the icon > Run as Administrator.

    Pete,
I could not find the yes on the edit systems. On my computer the number is 1311 but when I look it up with my service tag #, it has a different number. Here is the link

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...mID=Latitude 131L&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Regarging SIW, It worked fine, on the computer in question, it will not give me a report. I can get jndividul
on whateveer I'm looking at Will get more RAM o you thnk it might be cause of the error code?

    See screenshot ....

Your Service tag refers to the Latitude 131L - maybe the 'L' is in lower case on your computer case?

You will see that Dell offer no Windows 7 drivers for Windows 7, let alone x64, but it appears to be running, albeit slowly.

The list of error codes for your Dell is here .....

Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers

For Code 2000-0111 there should have been an accompanying error message - was there? Suggested fix is to contact Dell, which you have done, but interestingly that code is not associated with the BIOS.

My gut feeling is that it is a result of running Windows 7 x64 on the computer - can we be sure that it the OS you are running?

Edit - digging deeper into the Dell site I find that the 131L is compatable with Windows 7 .....

    http://support.dell.com/support/top...86447AB91960F199E040AC0A63E92064&docid=364734

This leaves the question of updating the BIOS ....

On the Drivers & Downloads page in the BIOS section click on 'More Download Options' and then on the file Win131L241.exe and save it to your hard drive. The file can be executed from within Windows.

Updating the BIOS is always a little dodgy, but as Dell suggested it it should be alright - when you talked to them about it did you mention that the computer was running 7 x64?

I can't see more RAM affecting the error when running the diagnostics, but I will repeat what I posted earlier .....

The minimum requirement for Windows 7 x64 is 2 Gb - with less than 1 Gb available (some of the 1 Gb will be used by the onboard graphics) it is no wonder that it runs slowly.

SIW will give a report file (File > Create Report File), but that is not required. The article, which incidentally I wrote :), WindowsBBS Support Forum - Adding System Specifications to your Profile indicates in the table where each item is to be found in SIW.

    Pete,

First thing I never found the yes function, the photo was too small for me to see.
I think I'm going to pend this until the RAM is incresed.
If I call Dell about this computer,it will cost me $70.00. I sneaked this question in when I was on the phone about a computer which is under warranty. The tech thought for a minute and told me it had to do with my memory and I needed to upgrade my Bios. That is all the information he gave me.
I used F12 to run the diagnostics.
What do you think about increasing the RAM and going from there?

Click on the image below my post above - you will see it full -size :)

I would thoroughly recommend increasing the RAM to 2 Gb, the minimum specified for Windows 7 x64 - cost ~$60, see Crucial.

    Pete,

I am so alow at times it scares me. I ran a complete diagnostic, everything passed and I no longer have the error message. Do you think it necessary that I download BIOS , that doesn't seem to be thr problem. What do you think?
