I'm sure we all do our research & when we hit a brick wall?? we seek answers from online forums such as BBS,
I know I first came to the site looking for an answer to what was causing constant restarts, programs opening automatically, cursor moving erratically? (this was on a laptop)
Well My local Techs told me I needed a new motherboard in the laptop:mad:, so I did some more research & stumbled across this site, when I posted my question I found out it was more than likely the touchpad was faulty & that an easy cure was to disable it:cool:! Well that Laptop works fine today! well apart from the fact that the touchpad is useless, no great loss as we use an external mouse.

When I find a post that takes my interest, but I don't readily have an answer to!, I research, be it the manufacturers site or by using the help button on a program, and if it is one of those curly ones  that is usually something that more than likely only something a End-User would know about I look at BBS
The Curly Ones, I mean how to do something that the manufacturer has no answers for, the ones they throw in the to-hard-bin until they get so many complaints they better do something about it, before they go broke problems!

So my Question is at the top, my thoughts hopefully you have just read:rolleyes:

    Regards Jac

Another way to phrase it: "Did you know you should spend somewhere between 2 hours and two days doing your own reseach before asking for assistance:eek: "

Same here. Whenever I have questions about something, I normally google it. Most of the time I find my answer by doing my own research. As a last resort though, I will post on the BBS if I get stumped and need some expert assistance but I haven't created a thread on a problem that I have had in a very long time.

Generally I'll research but if its obscure or complicated I'll just post it here - or if I'm just feeling lazy.:D

I would be safe in saying that most do the research, but I have found quite a few times that some questions by the newer members have not been, I'll spend about 30 minutes on a post looking for answers for someone else, which annoys my wife and as she says "its taking up her time with me!" which leaves me with the dread of not wanting to participate in the forum at times?

I don't have the wife problem - she has her own computer (built by me) and it's full of games. I can research (Google) first to my hearts content and quite often beat her to bed.
I often find when Googling for an answer, that there is a similar problem listed in BBS. There are a lot of Forums out there and you can spend quite some time in research. What else would you do? Neil.:)

Like most others I usually google a problem before coming here to BBS.
The advantage of BBS is that posters are advised to use a clear and precise problem heading. "There is a problem with my computer" isn't likely to attract much attention and is of no value to to someone making a search who actually does have the same problem
I'm sure the answer to almost everything is out there but the problem is sorting out the wheat from the chaff.
