Never encountered this issue, but first thing I'd do is delete all temp files as these accumulated files could interfere with the search functionality. Use start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup and get rid of everything.

Hi moonwalker and Georgia Maples, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Do you have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed? Try upgrading to Windows Search 4 and see if your computer freezes up after searching for an item. Have you tried searching for an item in Safe Mode? Does it freeze up there or not?

Adding to what Tony suggested I would download and run ATF Cleaner and select all the checkboxes in the program and hit the empty selected button to remove all the temp files on your system.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

i have Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed

yes it still does it in safe mode as well .

i also downloaded Windows Search 4 but it was **** , it doesnt find the same things that windows search finds , so i got rid of it ,

is there a way to fix windows search program ?
is there a file located somewhere i can replace it with perhaps a non corrupted version of windows search ?

does this ATF_Cleaner delete cookies or passwords to sites i have ?
i once had ccleaner and it deleted all stuff i didnt want it to delete a few years back .
