    Hi Tri,

    If this is your main system it would be helpful if you add your system details to your profile. Please click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

    A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile

    If you do add your system specifications be sure to do the above :)

    Generally you're looking for a PATA drive, perhaps smaller than 32Gb, completing your system specs would help answer your question.

    Regardless of system specs, doesn't 98 have a limit on the hard drive (or is it partition?) size of around 125 gigs?

    @CUISTech,

    Yes there is a partition limit of around 128Gb, but that is not the only issue...

    @Tri

    Some older BIOS/Motherboards cannot use more than 32Gb, add you system details as I instructed earlier and we'll be in a better position to help.

    Thanks Tri,

    Yes we can see your system specifications now :)

    Preliminary guess but any 3.5" IDE (PATA) drive less than or equal to 128Gb will be OK, give me an hour or so to confirm though.

    Ok nip down to 3000rpm and buy a 3.5" 128Gb IDE (PATA) HD, that's if you stay in Dundee, Scotland ;)

    Sorry Tri I don't give "exact options" ;)

    Here's a better idea, you look and once you've found a good offer ask us if it'll be OK. The only key things you need to worry about are...

    3.5 inch IDE (PATA)
    128Gb or less capacity.

    I would advise buying local rather than online though. If you have any issues you can at least go back to the store for assistance.

    ATA is PATA, it's also SATA.

    Before SATA (Serial ATA) became popular most IDE drives were described as ATA though they were Parallel ATA. You can tell by the connection that the maxtor drive you're looking at is indeed a PATA drive.

    i am sorry ATA is nothing but PATA i am sorry once again but my doubt is about the ATA 133 ,do u think its gonna fit because i noticed this information from the SIW software

    Interface : Parallel ATA
    Standard : ATA-3|ATA/ATAPI-4X3T13 1153D version 7
    Transfer Mode: PIO-DMa/Ultra DMA-33

    ATA 133 is backwards compatible with DMA-33, don't worry about it. You probably won't get ATA-133 speeds but with an 80 core cable you may get 66 or possibly 100, the drive will work with any cable though so that's another discussion for another day ;)
