I dont know what to do with this error, few weeks ago i my computer is make my some problems with installing antivirus, after i made a mistake i entered in Services and i press Rpc after NT AUTHORITHY SYSTEM Dont work is blocked, and i could not find network connections, i wanned to use system restore, but with no luck it said that, restart your computer and then you will be able to use system restore. Ok i tryed but nothing happens. The final solution was to reinstall windows and i put the cd in pc to install but i change my mind and i give a Repair maybe i made a fatal mistake i turn off the comp and i give the restart. From this moment the nightmare beggins, the computer remains in Setup at 39 minutes and ask for : The File Asms On Windows Xp Professional Service is needed, Type the path where the file is located and click ok, i search on the google for this error and i do all the things to repair my pc, i use the instructions to press shift F10 and to search in registry the Hkey_Local_Machine to load the Hive i tipped, %Systemroot%\System32\Config\System.sav and nothing it said that the path is not founded. After this error another comes OLE ControlC:\WINDOWS\System32\macromed\flash\flash.ocx Dll Register Server, : An Error Has Been Encountered That Prevents Setup From Continuing : Setup Failed to Install the Product Catalogs, This is a Fatal Error, The Setup Log Files Should Contain More Information : Setup Encountered an Error While Tryng To Set Sytem Security An Extended Error Has Been Occured. I dont know what to do with this, and i enetered in BIOS and after that my computer is in setup but is restarting i see the blue screen and for few seconds the Setup and after is go Black and is restarting again and again, the mouse and keyboard is paralized dont work. Please help i want to know if i throw the computer at trash? I want to get my data back if it possible :(((((((((((((((

It's hard to understand your post because you have not organized your thoughts properly.

That aside, I would recommend a full clean install of the Windows system into the same folder that it is in now. That will allow you to get your personal files off the drive and move forward with other measures. Do not format or change any partitions on the drive if offered to do so or else you will lose your personal data.

Hi Sparda, welcome to BBS. You have a problem with your Re-install when the message about ASMS missing comes up. I had a similar problem and spent some considerable time Googling and trying various suggested methods to fix.

ASMS folder is in i386 Folder which is a main folder in the OS. I eventually used another HD which I used to copy i386 Folder from and then pasted it into the HD which was asking for the ASMS file.

I then restarted the install of XP Pro and it went through without any hassles. ASMS apparently has something to do with recognizing your CD Drive, and others had found that by changing their CD/DVD drive, they were able to install XP OK. I tried SIX different drives and it did not work for me. That is why I copied and pasted i386 Folder.

Try this and see if you can proceed with your re-install of XP. It also helps us if you fill in your "System Details ". Cheers Neil.

Are you using a USB Keyboard / Mouse? If so can you temporarily change to PS/2?

    OK, Sparda...

I tend to agree with surferdude2 here, you are bringing up several different problems in a seemingly random pattern. I've no doubt these issues are related but you really need to gather your thoughts and explain your problems as simply as possible and the order of events.

May I also suggest you stop trying to troubleshoot this issue now so we can determine the exact state of affairs.

Let's start again ;) take your time, think about what you're posting and we'll see what we can do.

Put the XP setup CD in the drive bay and see if you can boot to it. You may need to set your bios so it checks the CD drive first in the boot sequence. Post back your results.

I think you may have a hardware problem. Test your hard drive by downloading and running the manufacturer's diagnostics software.

It would help speed things along if you would complete the list of your System Details. (for the ailing machine)

To do that, click on User CP at the top of this thread, left side. Then click Edit System Specs. Enter all the information that applies to your system and tag all boxes that apply. When finished, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

Then click the "Edit Options" link. Scroll down to the System Specifications" field and change the scrollable setting to read Yes. Finally, click the Save Changes button at the bottom and you'll be all done.
