I have been here before, thought it was resolved.

Click on Internet Explorer should get Google as default search engine, but get an insurance company in browser, have to go to control panel to change back to google home page, ok while session is on, switch off and we are back to insurance on start up of internet explorer, changed it many times back it keeps coming back, ??????

    Hi Spanner,

I'm suspecting malware here, I can't think of any other reason why your default search engine would keep on getting hijacked...

Please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.

Little snow in Dundee mate :) It looks like it's further north that's worst hit. My father works local but stays in Inverness and was concerned about getting home tonight (parts of the A9 were closed until around 2pm).

    Anyway, back on topic...

Once you've been given the all clear by the analysts post back here if you still have issues.

I will be at the poblem comp on Tuesday,we run a 4 day week teaching old-uns computing, have 8 comps networked.

I was watching TV last night and noticed roads in Scotland with banks of snow, looked dodgy, I had a Photo assignment ( for a whisky distillery) near Inverness, some years ago can't remember getting home. I live in Essex near Southend,( pronounced "Soufen ")
Back to you later, have a good weekend.

    Hi Spanner,

Probably a good idea to stick an out of order notice on it and disconnect it from the network until malware is ruled out. Keep an eye on it as well or sure as fate one of those "old-uns" will come along and say he's fixed that broken computer ;)

Hi Wildfire, situation with default engine problem resolved, the local Council suddenly realised they had not renewed virus protection for 2 years, got in a panic when they realised and are now installing the full AV protection on ALL 24 PC's, including the Computer Forum PC's for the 'olduns' It took a meeting with a local Councillor to get them off their backside. Thanks for the advice , let you know if they get it right.
