I have a desktop(Windows 7) and a laptop XP. I initially worked on the laptop with SP2, without problems.

I then installed SP3 and had significant problems with mpeg files- trying to open it, would give me an error message, something like this" Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" As I do a lot of of video editing, I could not work like that and uninstalled SP3. I did not have the same problem on my desktop with Windows 7 when working with mpeg files.

But now, I get this error message on my laptop:

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi avz,

I'd recommend disabling file indexing, follow these instructions and post back if the problem reoccurs (if it does malware may be involved).

The indexing service is meant to speed up searches but I've found a) it's still very slow and b) there's better tools out there that do a more reliable job.

Thanks Wildfire, but I followed your advice- no luck.

My antivirus is up to date (AVG). Is there any program that I can download to look for malware? I tried Advanced System Care, it showed problems, but did not fix this one. I did defragment the laptop with Auslogics.

    Thanks for any help

Is the error exactly the same? If so...

Please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.
