I'm running WindowsXP Professional on a Dell Latitude D420, and have been trying to install Roxio GoBack 3.0, included on Norton SystemWorks 2002 Professional, and I've been experiencing a recurring problem.

I can successfully install GoBack, but when the computer restarts, I get a stop error [blue] screen, which among other things shows a Driver_IRQL_Not_Less__Or_Equal. I'm able to restart and return to a prior configuration before the problem, and get back to the Desktop - but only by Disabling GoBack at start-up. I've since uninstalled GoBack, but I wonder if there are any recommendations on a possible solution strategy. I've used GoBack on other computers and have frequently found it to be a lifesaver, and preferable to the Microsoft Windows Restore.

This isn't an isolated problem, since I experienced the exact same problem when I tried to install GoBack on a laptop running WindowsXP Media Center Edition running on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. Conversely, I was able to successfully install this same version of GoBack on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop running WindowsXP Professional.

I've tried posting this same problem elsewhere, but it hasn't elicited much in the way of help so far. What are others thinking - inquiring minds want to know?

Look you may not like this answer, but Norton SystemWorks 2002 and using Goback is not advised

For one thing it is now 2010  and another issue > no tech likes horrible Norton Goback, with all its issues.
I suppose you are also using Norton Antivirus? (I wonder what version there)

My recommendation, keep it uninstalled and throw the old setup disc in the bin. It doesn't even have nostalgic reasons, except as one of the worst utilities ever designed.

Otherwise, please wait for someone's helpful advice on the matter :)

Hey opposing opinions are always welcome. For the record, off the Norton SystemWorks Professional disk, GoBack is the only program I'm actually using (I didn't just roll off the hay wagon). However, the GoBack program has always functioned very reliably for me, as far back as I can remember.

The larger puzzle is why only one computer will seemingly run GoBack error-free, even when using the exact same O/S between all three laptops. I'm not sure what inferences to draw from that, and the one laptop where GoBack is working fine was installed so long ago, I can't recall anything that I'm doing differently now. I think I'll troll a little longer for some insightful fixes.

I'll just go with a couple of possible quick fixes

    Start > Run > chkdsk /r > ok > Y > Restart

And check for Malware, I like free Malwarebytes for that (Quick updated scan)
But since we are not in the Malware removal forum, please don't supply logs or anything ;)

Are you getting a STOP: c000021a error message? If so, it's likely caused by your nvidia driver conflicting with GoBack. It's a known issue that occurs with one version of nvidia driver dated 3 Nov 2003. Check yours and see. If it is, roll the driver back to a previous version and your problem may disappear. It's also possible that updating the driver may work for you. I'd try that first, regardless of what version I had.

Good luck. I used GoBack for years and loved it. I quit when imaging software (I use Acronis 11) got able to do incrementals since that was much more reliable and overcame the GoBackio.bin limitation as to depth of history it could store.

Interesting angle. As I mentioned in my alternate location posting, I get a stop error [blue] screen, which among other things shows a Driver_IRQL_Not_Less__Or_Equal. I'm able to restart and return to a prior configuration before the problem, and get back to the Desktop - but only by Disabling GoBack at start-up. Candidly, I'm not sure either of these laptops has a Nvidia video/graphics card on-board. I think they actually have an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card (of some type) on-board.

Does this still sound like it could be a video graphics card driver conflict issue?

The NVidia error and Goback is discussed HERE

But to continue with your system (and ATI Video card) we need to know a few things:

    1. What is the stop error code, and what other information is in the blue screen?
    2. What are your System Specs? Please do not post them in a reply, instead refer to HERE to add them to your profile
    3. Please answer if my earlier posts found or removed any issues.

I hope that member surferdude2, also believes that the 3 instructions above are required to continue to help you.

    edit:
I note that you have stated you have a Dell Latitude D420 already
    HERE are those specs

Although the Video driver states it is Intel not ATI ?
