My PC hangs and crashes, bluescreen memory dump etc.
I am now running VGA in safe mode and no more crashes. Does that indicate that my graphics driver is at fault?
OS XP SP2- onboard Nvidea graphics 2 Gig Ram dual core processor.

I have downloaded driver from M/board site, but not sure of best method of installation, (if that's what I need to do.

Is VGA a generic driver and does it mean that my Nvidia driver is ignored?

Could be, but that's not the only possibility.

    Yes.

If there were no instructions on the manufacturer's site, go to Device manager and select your Display Adapter > Action > Update Driver > and direct it to the location of your download.

If that doesn't fix the problem, download BlueScreenView. Unzip the download to its own folder and run the executable it contains. It checks the dump files created when the system crashes. It will find them automatically if they exist. It can be of great help when trying to diagnose a BSOD problem. It's a free-standing program that requires no installation. Just click the executable. Full instructions are on the download site.

You should also check your memory, preferrably by substitution or withdrawing one stick at a time.

Check processor temperature and clean heat sink and all other air passages if need be.

    Introduction to Stop Errors

"Stop errors in a nutshell are errors that are serious enough to cause Windows to stop. They are similar to the blue screen errors that were present on Windows 9x, however there is no option to try and resume the session in a Windows NT Stop Error (Windows 2000 and all XP members included). "

Will this overwrite the current Nvidia driver?

If I had a PCI card it would be easy but I never had onboard graphics before

Ps tried to insert quote but unsuccessful

one cause of crashing was HP CUE Device Discovery. I disabled this and has not crashed since. and hung only once. (touching wood) Have not tried using HP printer yet. Not yet ready to sign as SOLVED

Start what you want to quote with [ quote ] and end it with [ / quote ] Without the spaces ;)

    eg
    Code:
    [ quote ]I want to Quote this[ /quote ]
