hi guys. im back with the same issue i had over 2 months ago (starting a new thread since i can no longer post in the old one)

i originally had this issue when i used my HD4870 and 600OCZ PSU.

for two months i used a 420W PSU and my older GPU - the X1900XTX (radeon) and didnt have issues , but that was due to the fact my real 600W PSU has died on me and was sent to be replaced. i took out my HD4870 GPU cuz i knew my older 420W PSU couldnt handle it. while i used THAT hardware configuration i dont think i noticed weird issues with my computer.

anyways, i bought a new PSU instead of the one that died - a 550W truepower, by ANTEC and brought my trusted HD4870 back into the case. now im having the weird issues again - when i shot down my computer and try to turn it on again i can hear a fan turning, after a couple of seconds the computer shuts down and then try to reboot again. this can happen over and over again for like 10 or 15 times until it actually starts to work.
i dont get it. the new hardware is the PSU but if its new, how can it cause problems? and i can play the most demanding games and they run fine so i dont know why would it be my GPU. and if the GPU demands too much voltage than why is it only doing problems when i boot up the computer and not when i play games?

p.s. - i dont have a UPS and my rig has:
    1XGPU - 4870 512mb
    2X1GB RAM sticks
    2XHDD
    1XQ6600 at 2.4ghz (not OCed)
    1X550W ANTEC PSU

    so what's the deal?!

Hi topeira, It would pay you to enter your System Details (User CP-top left of Welcome Screen). Have you had any Yellow exclamation points in your Device Manager? It sounds like you might have a conflict somewhere. Cheers Neil.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the graphics card has been damaged when the 600W failed, that would be the conclusion I'd draw. Have you tested the PSU with the old card? It does seem odd to me that it does eventually come to life, so maybe there's a dodgy contact somewhere.

    thanks for taking guesses, guys.

a damaged GPU is something im afraid of and not to reluctant to check but i might do that if these issues will keep appearing. thing is - i have no issues running the computer once its booted. running games or multi tasks - all work pretty solid, as far as i can tell....
does that match your assumptions, lukeno1?

Just because a PSU is new, doesn't mean it can't be faulty. But was the computer running when the old PSU failed?

@ admin - sadly i tried to enter my specs in the CP several times but it never saves the details. i gave up.

my specs are in the OP.

@lukeno1 - yeah. i had the exact same failiures with the older PSU (which died, as i said).

@retiredlearner - i checked my device manager. no yellow exclemation or question marks. all good.

    :(
