[Resolved] Please Help, I'm Completely Stumped (Trojan.Bankpatch.C!inf)

    Here's my situation:

First things first, i am a beginner so please excuse me if i sound absolutely clueless. However, i've been running Norton 360 on my computer for about 2 years now. To my knowledge i have the most updated version as well as "virus definitions. "

In the last week i ran a scan on my computer (i'm running windows vista), and it found a virus called, "Trojan.Bankpatch.C!inf." Norton calls the severity of this low, says that it is File Based, and that the Risk category is Spyware. However it will not remove it off my computer. It simply says manual removal is required.

Here's where my problem is. Norton so conveniently gives me a link to more info on this virus and a 'how-to' for manual removal. Here's the link in case you're interested, http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-081822-3840-99

Anyways, it simply says to do a reboot in safemode which i did and then to remove it there, which i tried. But in trying to remove it (in safemode), it just wouldnt let me. So i investigate further on Norton's site and they describe how to delete certain things in the registry via this link: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-081817-1808-99&tabid=3

But the problem is, is that i cannot even find those "paths" in my registry to begin with. SO then my question is, is how the heck do i get this thing off my computer?? I've done some research but nothing seems to help and i also am not totally sure what i'm doing to begin with. It also seems as if the Virus is Dormant, so to speak, and not actually stripping information from my computer. Thank god i don't do many sensitive things on my computer. But if there is anything you all can help me with it would be much appreciated

again, here is overview of my information if necessary
    I'm running WINDOWS VISTA
    the virus is called Trojan.Bankpatch.C!inf
    I'm running NORTON 360

Thanks for the link, and I apologize for not reading it before posting. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're only requesting the DDS logs right? Otherwise I am not totally sure how to get a log from my Norton 360.

my apologies for not reading the post first, thank you for the the link though. I will post the requested DDS logs, however i am not sure how to post any logs from Norton 360. Although i did find something that notated the file paths of the virus as:

    C:\windows\syswow64\nsysk.ini

    C:\windows\syswow64\nsysp.ini

    C:\windows\syswow64\nsysw.ini

You did fine. We don't need any Norton's log.

    Print these instructions out.

NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe

***VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure, you update Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes before running the scans.***

STEP 1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
    http://www.superantispyware.com/

    * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes ". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates ". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
    * Close SUPERAntiSpyware.

    PHYSICALLY DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET

    Restart computer in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; select Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

    * Open SUPERAntiSpyware.
    * Click Scan your Computer... button.
    * Click Scanning Preferences/Control Center... button.
    * Under General and Startup tab, make sure, Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts option is UN-checked.
    * Click the Scanning Control tab.
    * Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    * Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
    * On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    * On the right, choose Perform Complete Scan.
    * Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click OK.
    * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click Next.
    * A notification will appear that Quarantine and Removal is Complete. Click OK and then click the Finish button to return to the main menu.
    * If asked if you want to reboot, click Yes.
    * To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
    * Click Close to exit the program.
    Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

    RECONNECT TO THE INTERNET

    RESTART COMPUTER!

STEP 2. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    * Post the log back here.

The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    RESTART COMPUTER!

STEP 3. Download GMER: http://www.gmer.net/files.php, by clicking on Download EXE button.
    Alternative downloads:
    - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...ers/GMER.shtml
Double click on downloaded .exe file, select Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
When scan is completed, click Save button, and save the results as gmer.log
Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Post the log to your next reply.

    RESTART COMPUTER

    STEP 4. Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.2
[DO NOT download version 2.0.3 (beta)]
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackThis log.
NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator
Do NOT attempt to "fix" anything!

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Ok so here is the SuperAntiSpyware log. Also, a few things i wanted to mention that may give more info regarding my issue:

    1. before i resorted to posting on this forum my brother took a look at my computer and went to actually find the root files in which Norton 360 traced the virus to (c:\windows\syswow64\), and in opening the files which came up as notepad docs, he simply deleted all the information in the documents which he explained as gibberish and then resaved them like that. I have no idea what significance that has.
    2. Since finding this virus or whatever, my computer has been pretty sluggish compared to its normal state
    3. The very first time i rebooted in safemode when i attempted to reboot normally, my bottom taskbar and start menu remained grey instead of the black "vista" theme i had originally picked for the computer.

ANyways, here is my log for the SuperAntiSpyware scan. I'm not quite sure why nothing was found, however i do recall scanning a day or two ago and nothing was found.

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

    1. Disable your active antivirus program.
    2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
    3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
    4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
    5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      [*] Archives
      [*] Mail databases
    6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
    7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
    8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
    9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

alright i ran the temp file cleaner and i'm running the Kaspersky right now. Interesting note though, when i went to the link for Kaspersky it didn't really do everything you listed it would. I went there and it immediately began updating definitions and what not after i accepted the agreement and then it just said ok to scan so i'm scanning right now. Hopefully all is ok. thanks again for your patience. If not in the next hour or so, i should post the Kaspersky log by later tonight (It's 6:11pm by me right now).

Actually. When i hit "run scan" on Kaspersky's website after selecting "my computer" under the scan category, it comes up with a prompt saying,
"Launch of the Java application is interrupted! Please establish an uninterrupted Internet connection for work with this program. "

And shortly after the scan shows no progress. Any reason for this? I did disable my anti-virus. Any Help?

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
    • Click Start
    • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
    • Click Start
    • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
    • Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
    • Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
    • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
    • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic
