[Active] Antivirus detect but can't remove

Dear all,

I am using Avira, and for a reason I ignore, it began detecting Freddy81.exe which couldn't neither remove or quarantine. I did some search on the net and found freefixer which removed it on reboot.

I am wondering why an updated antivirus would detect a virus and not being able to remove or quarantine.

AV's can use heuristic scanning which will reveal suspicious activity, possibly without having the means to do anything about it.
Alerting you to the problem is more important so that you can find a way to remove it.
