[Resolved] IE7 Won't Load in WinXP, can't use Napster or Quicken on-line

    Title tells all.
    Here are the specifics.
I try to load Win IE7, it "hangs" saying "connecting to'.. "
I have to "reset" IE, then a program seems to hijack me to a survey.
"Msn.com survey" (punctuation correct) at yourinputsurvey.com.
Some lady tells me to take a free survey.....
The address line is (I think) "go.miscrosoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=69157 "

I reset and so it goes again.
FF seems to work, but it seems as if I still am led to sites I do not select or click on, especially when they are a link in another site.

Argh! I can't use the online features of either Napster or Quicken 2010. Again, when I try to load napster, the program works, but it will NOT allow me to go " "online" to get new songs, etc. Same with Quicken. I can load and use the program but it will NOT let me go online to register the program or use online banking/investments.

I found this site, read the ideas and tips, and downloaded tried the superspyware, malaware, GMER, hijackThis thing. No help.
I tried restoring from an earlier time, no help, I only had two days available and it wouldn't let me do it.

    Here are the logs

SUPERantispyware logs: none. It said no viruses identified or found or something, and no log generated (that I saw anyway)

    Malaware log:

Please download ComboFix from [color= "Red"]Here[/color] or [color= "#FF0000"]Here[/color] to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
    • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results ".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE 1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
    • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

    Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.2
[DO NOT download version 2.0.3 (beta)]
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

I feel we are close! Thanks for the help so far, almost there.
I was on the chat line for almost 1 hour (not to mention the 1 hour wait "in the que ") with the Quicken guy Tuesday nite, the he just disconnected without solving the problem... Argh!

Do you still use Zone Alarm, or I just see some leftovers?

    1. Please open Notepad
    • Click Start , then Run
    • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

    2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

    Code:
    File::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\X????.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\X.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\a751EpD52.sys

    Folder::

    Driver::
    a751EpD52
    X

    Registry::

    RegLockDel::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\X**0|‚*@¶·]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Control\SafeBoot\Network\X**0|‚*@¶·]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\X**0|‚*@¶·]

    3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

    4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

    5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
    • Combofix.txt
    • A new HijackThis log.

I just installed ZA Tuesday (Before I found this forum).

I am at work and will do all the above when I get home tonite.
    Thank you for your assistance!

After I am officially declared clean ( I love that, I feel like a leper made whole) I am wondering if I will need to re-install Quicken and Napster? Maybe somehow the problem (that seems to be gone with Combofix) corrupted their abilities to access the online aspects?

I assume, you run only ZA firewall?

That surely will be your next option, but let's wait for now.

    :Files
    C:\Program Files\SnadBoy's Revelation v2\Revelation.exe

    :Commands

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    1. Open HijackThis.

    2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

    3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe [unless you have paid version]
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AdobeUpdater] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater5\AdobeUpdater.exe "
    - O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll [unless you have paid version]

    5. Click on Fix checked button.

    6. Restart computer.

    7. Post new HijackThis log.

    Everything looks good!

Super. I have IE7, I have online access to Quicken, and I just d/led Napster and it also works great. :D
I will change my passwords and look at the info you suggested.
Thank you so much for your help!
I wish there was a way I could donate a small token of my appreciation?
I KNOW I would have spent a LOT of money to have BestBuy or someone else do this...

Very very hearty thank you for your time and assistance.
