Hi very300, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Click Start< Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Make sure that the Fast User Switching Compatibility Service and Terminal Services are Started and set to Automatic. Also in Control< User Accounts, make sure that both the User the Welcome Screen checkbox and the User Fast User Switiching checkboxes are both checked.

One last thing you should check. Click Start< Right click My Computer and hit properties< click the Computer Name tab. Where it says To rename this computer or join a domain, click change click the change button. Now ensure that you are a member of a Workgroup and not a Domain. If the option is set to domain change it to Workgroup and name the Workgroup to whatever name you want and click ok. Reboot the computer for the changes to take affect.
Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

You could have some corrupt Windows Files on your system and that could be causing the Windows Fast User Switching to not function properly. Try this: click Start< Run and type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Have your Windows XP CD handy in case SFC needs a file. When SFC finishes, reboot the computer and test to see if Fast User Switching works or not.
