    Hi Missa85,

Barring any removal of cables I'd agree it's a driver issue...

PeteC wrote a page explaining how to add your system details to your profile. Please click on the link and follow those instructions it could save some time when resolving this or further issues.

If you carry out those instructions we may be able to track down the necessary drivers for you.

I may be going offline very soon (switching ISP's) but if you follow the above someone may be able to assist.

Run it and follow those instructions, the key one is Motherboard, I primarily want to rule in/out onboard sound. If your sound is onboard it'll be relatively easy to determine required drivers. If your sound card is an addon and you don't know which one you may have to open your system and I don't think you want to do that.

Read that link again, all the required instructions are there.

It may take some time but it is worth the effort.

    Ok,

The particular information we'd be interested in with this issue are

    1)PC Make & Model
    2)Motherboard
    3)Sound Card

Look at the table to determine where they can be located in SIW, but I strongly suggest you complete all the instructions on that page if this is your only system.

    Hi Missa,
the general Info required is the manufacturer & model of the motherboard, and the bit rate, 32 or 64 of the operating system, once you can track these down click on user CP at the top left of this page, the click on edit system specs, there are a number of feilds to add if you wish but just stick to those 2 for now.
You can click on the my system link on either Wildfires or my response to get a better idea.
Have you run any windows updates as yet, you may find that it can be readily resolved by using the custom update method, I find this helpful, you can also go to the manufacturers website & download the correct drivers there.
    Regards Jac

My first, as the crow flies thought. All you need---absent some hardware is not plugged in properly or some pin is in the wrong port... I think, are the audio drivers for that individual system from the Mfg. And all the big ones have them on their respective sites for download.

Same as on the utility CD that come with new systems.

Hm. I would suggest Device manager, then look at the details for the device that is not working due to missing drivers, get the device instance ID, and look it up on Netbump. There are links to nearly every driver for XP that are available there, but not for vista or 7. If you don't know netbump, google NETBUMP HADI - VERY useful site. Hope this helps.

Let's keep things simple and straightforward for missa85 :)

    missa85 ...

Run SIW and in the left hand column click on Motherboard which is under Hardware and post the motherboard details shown in the right hand column - see screenshot from my system ....

With that info we can point you to the download for the motherboard drivers, including sound.

I would never trust a friend who clearly does not have the nouse to load the chipset drivers after reinstalling the OS - presumably a clean install with format?

Do one thing Open device manager
Right click on the sound drivers (having a mark)
Select the Tab Details and from the drop down menu select Hardware Ids
There u will see DEV_***** (*** are some numbers)
Note down the numbers and put those number in device search on

    http://www.pcidatabase.com/

It will give the right information

    pccare.....

That is far too complicated for a beginner who is already confused - always take note of the OP's Computer Experience - If it states Beginner you can believe it - if it states Experienced - assess the degree of experience based on the basic question asked and make your own judgement.

    Yep you are right there!!
Your system specs are still not showing, can you tell me what model the Optima is? that will be extremely helpful, the model number should show on the front of the case some where, or on the back of the unit on a warranty label?

    Regards Jac

    Hi missa,
No hits on either the MyPc or the serial number, how did you go with the SIW info, did it work & list the motherboard? If so highlight the motherboard name & model, press ctrl then c (basically together) once in your reply press ctrl v this should copy the info highlighted into your message
    regards Jac
