I just purchased a new 23" lcd montior to replace my 19" lcd monitor and now things seem choppy especially videos (online and stored videos on the hard drive). The resolution on the 19" was set at its native 1440x900 and worked fine. The resolution on the 23" was set to 1920x1080 (native). My system is a 2.4Ghz Pentium, 1GB ram and an AGP NVIDIA GeForce FX-5200 128MB, connected by VGA.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

That may be the problem - have you checked that your card supports the higher resolution and have you updated the drivers?

    Run Option 2 here.

The video card does support that resolution. I have not updated the drivers. When you say "That may be the problem " about the video card, do you mean the card itself or by connecting by VGA ?

I was wondering more about the VGA connection as opposed to the more usual (nowadays) DVI than the card itself.

Might be worth checking out DirectX and updating if necessary - to check ....

    Start > Run > dxdiag > Enter

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :) Although it may not be important in this case we have no idea which OS you are running.

I'm running XP Pro. I may just buy a new video card that has DVI and see if that helps. I just thought the video quality would at least the same quality not worse with the new monitor. I'm going to try the driver update first and see if that helps.

    Thanks

I already have the latest video drivers but i updated DirectX and the lag seems to be gone on watching videos :) Is there a big difference going to DVI ?

    Thanks

    Great news :)
I think not except in terms of absolute image quality and fidelity - if all is well I would stick with what you have until you feel the need to update the card anyway.

    Digital Visual Interface - DVI

    Video Graphics Array - VGA

Maybe yr refresh rate is set wrong? Look in the manual that came with yr new screen and see if they have a suggestion re this. Maybe it's set at 60 and needs to be set at 75.

I would also go to Display and, while retaining the right proportions for the new screen which I assume is wide.....see if using the slide bar to lower the resolution helps.

Also maybe something about graphics accelerator which you might try turning off.

When you post yr specs, I would also be curious re the wattage of yr PSU.....tho that does not relate to the LCD issue you are asking about.

Edit: am also wondering if you've considered adding ram? Given the speed of yr CPU, bet yr board will support more than 1GB. The more you have the better eveything is.
