was getting the jscript.dll error in internet explorer 6 so i upgraded to 7 and still getting the error quite frequently. i have done the re-register function and that was successful but still getting it.

have researched online but nothing talks about xp sp3. the download for the function from m.s. says not needed because am on sp3 so why am i still getting ie 7 to shut down on me ??? any thoughts would be helpful.

I would not want to run IE7, it is too vulnerable. Get IE8.

Try to remove the older versions of java from the system. Disable your security software on your system and then go to java website and try installing the latest java .

    If this doesnt fix ,
then try creating a new user account and see.

Better still use JavaRa to remove old versions and install the latest ....
Don't even think of it - IE 6 has more security holes than a sinking ship :)

when i run the javara during the process i get an error in ntdll.dll and the javara closes. got a feeling this machine is got some problems but rebuilding this machine being its my main machine and has a ton of unique programs is not an easy thing to do. would take literally a whole weekend.

can i just uninstall thru control panel all the java and then just get the current version ???

this machine is a little over 5 years now p4 3.2ghz and it has the original xp pro before service packs and because i had a 200g hard drive i needed to use partition magic for it to see the whole drive. i did create an ico image later with sp2 but my guess is that image would have the same problems within it even if i were to do this machine over. so right now i am stuck until i can afford to buy the machine i really want which will run me about a grand and with the economy and the slow down in my business unfortunately i cant afford the machine of my desires right now. but when i can honestly im going to take this machine out in the woods and use a 12gauge on it. i built this machine 5 years ago using an ecs board and honestly i have had problems from day one. i will never do that again to save a little money.

i will try uninstalling all the java and then update with the current version. sometime ago i did remove all the other versions that it left on my machine with was an incredible amount of old stuff but this time i will remove all version including the current one and then download the lastest version and hopefully that will stop the error.

thanks petec and others who have posted here.

what a pain in the butt the java update turned out to be. apparently the javara got far enough in its process that it ******* up the registry so when i tried to uninstall it it couldnt find the registry key and failed. then just tried to upgrade to the current version but the install kept wanting to update the old version which no longer was there. got a bunch of java install errors finally used m.s. install remover and it was able to get rid of java. then to be safe i installed the new jave to the program folder but to java1 and it took. hopefully this will get rid of the jscript.dll error i hope. i think this machine is just ******* and i will have to live with some of the problems im having until i can afford a new system. so much easier to rebuild my clients machines but this being my main machine and so unique with some programs i have its not the funnest thing to rebuild.

needed to reopen this call because the jscript.dll error is back in vengence. did the same process once again even deleted the folders in program files and also in my profile application data as was suggested when reseaching online. when i download the new java file and run it i now get "uncommpression of downloaded file failed ".

now what the heck is going on with this blank blank computer ??? and what happens if i just dont worry about java ???

this machine is giving me nightmares.

Have you tried installing IE8 as suggested by Arie? IMO it is something that you must try.

Hey guys, you are missing the boat here.
Jscript.dll has nothing at all to do with java.
    Jscript.dll is JAVASCRIPT.

Javascript errors are caused by many different things:
    malware
    spyware
    viruses
    incorrect IE settings
    antivirus and network security apps
    many others

Check the above on your comp and if necessary replace the existing jscript.dll.

    What error exacty?

i am still getting the jscript.dll error and now also getting mshtml.dll error in ie7so how can i get the jscript.dll error when java is totally off my system ???

okay tonyt so how do i get a new jscript.dll file for my xp pro sp3 ??? when i try the m.s. update it tells me its for sp2.

have not tried upgrading to ie8 yet because some clients of mine have had nothing but problems with ie8 once they installed it and as soon as we uninstalled it machine was responsive again.

this is not making any sense. i have a dell machine that i have been using for playing with vista and win7 i think its time to start configuring that machine with 7 to be my main machine but that will take tons of time to get the way i want it and to make sure all my programs and devices will work so any help with the above errors would be greatly appreciated. thanks once again.

yeah thats pretty much what im starting to realize. right now im building a dell machine that i was using as a test machine but will worry about a test machine later. unfortunately like i said this process of backing up and putting all the programs back on the new machine is time consuming but i guess theres not much choice. going to take a 12 gauge to this old one once im done that i sure of. wont ever build a machine again with an unknown board just to save a few bucks wasnt worth the aggravation.

    thanks all.

was not a good day yesterday. machines problems were just the beginning it acturally crashed on me big time. guess it was time is about 5.5 years old. anyway configured my dell test machine to now be my main machine. its functional but will take some time to get everything back the way i want it.

now what i am needing is advice on a good clone sft. dont want to go thru this again. so im looking for sft that i can make an image of and do an iso burn to a dvd. what is a good one that wont put me in debt ???
